Product Description:

This is it, the eagerly anticipated and finally available third book in the"Exploring Creation with Zoology" series. Now it's time to learn about all the land animals God created on the sixth day. Animals in this category are diverse and include many different types. Like the others in this series, the groups are studied using their scientific names. You'll learn about Carnivores, Caniforms, Feliforms, Marsupials, Primates, Rodentia, Ungulates (hoofed animals), Artiodactyla, reptiles, amphibians, and even dinosaurs. The book is divided into 14 modules, each containing the quality information and illustrations you've come to expect from Apologia. Children will learn about what makes each group very special and different from other groups of animals. At the end of each module, children will engage in a variety of notebookactivities and experiments. A "Track It!" activity helps students identify tracks of the animals just covered in that module. The "Map It!" activity encourages students to mark a map with the location of where you might find the animals from that module. How Exciting! I think parents will really enjoy learning along with their children about the unique land creatures God created.

Publisher Description:

What separates people from apes? How can a Great Dane be related to a Chihuahua? Is there evidence that people and dinosaurs lived at the same time? What should you do if you encounter a bear? How can you tell if a snake is poisonous? Come find out answers to these questions and many, many more with Apologias Exploring Creation with Zoology 3! This third book in the zoology series takes students on a safari through jungles, deserts, forests, farms, and even their own backyard to explore, examine and enjoy the enchanting creatures God designed to inhabit the terrain. Families will snuggle together and discover the amazing animals from primates to parasites, kangaroos to caimans, and turtles to terrifying T-Rexs this safari doesnt end there! Students will also keep a record of where each animal is found on a map and learn to identify animal tracks. As with all the Apologia elementary books, students will continue the practice of narration, keeping a notebook of what they have learned, and enjoy many hands on projects and experiments throughout the course.

Category Description for Apologia Science (K-6):

This popular elementary science series was originally created when Jeannie Fulbright, author and homeschool mom, was looking for a quality elementary science series that was creation-based using the Charlotte Mason approach. When she didn't find the curriculum she was looking for she decided to create her own. These books use the classical and Charlotte Mason methodology including narration and notebooking to develop critical thinking, logical ordering, retention, and record keeping. The series has since expanded to cover more science topics. New for 2021 is Earth Science, authored by Rachel Yunis, author of Exploring Creation with Advanced Biology.

Since the Charlotte Mason method is employed, every lesson is organized with a narrative, notebook work, an activity, and a project. The student notebook is emphasized in the lessons. Activities and projects bring the lessons to life and use simple household items. While the author's intent is for the parent to read these books to elementary students, a student with a 4th-grade reading level could read these books on their own. The books come from a strong creationist viewpoint, including sections called "Creation Confirmation" and Scripture interwoven throughout the book. Apologia recommends spending an entire year covering each book, taking about two weeks to explore most lessons (some lessons may require more time).

Notebooking Journals were a later - and welcome - addition to the series. As they complete the courses, students were encouraged to compile a notebook to collect and display the information they are learning. The Apologia Notebooking Journals now provide a place for the student to complete every assignment, to record experiments and to display work. Included are weekly lesson plans, templates for recording fascinating facts and assignments, and scripture copywork in both print and cursive models. In addition to full-color Miniature Books (for recording facts and information and pasting directly into the notebook), there are optional ideas (Take it Further in Astronomy; Dig in Deeper in Botany; Fly Higher in Zoology, etc.) for lots of additional activities, projects, experiments, books or videos, all of which correlate with specific lessons in each course. Along these lines, the Personal Person project in both of the Anatomy notebooks is special providing clear vinyl overlays of each body system. Be prepared to cut these out, though.

Junior Notebooking Journals are a simplified version of the orignal Notebooking Journals and require less handwriting but have the same reinforcing activities. These books include coloring pages, project pages, and cut and fold miniature books (same ones as in the version for older students). There is space for notebooking assignments (more drawings, no questions to answer) and scripture copywork (shorter verses to copy either in manuscript or in beginning cursive). Biblical quotations are from the NASB, KJV, NIV or NKJV.

To complete the books all you will need to provide is scissors, glue, colored pencils, a stapler, and a few brass fasteners. There are plenty of activity options in the journals, but keep in mind that based on your student, you may not want to complete every activity. Work can be tailored to each student by simply tearing out unwanted pages from the spiral-bound book. Serving both as a uniquely expressed record of the student's work and as a prized reminder of acquired knowledge, these books will become a homeschooling heirloom.

For convenience, we now offer either Advantage Sets or SuperSets. Advantage Sets include the textbook and either the Junior or original Notebooking Journal. SuperSets include the text, the MP3 Audiobook CD and either the Junior or the original Notebooking Journal.

We also offer lab kits from Nature's Workshop for the elementary courses. Kits contain most of the materials for the experiments, and are conveniently packaged by lesson in the corresponding book (sold separately). There are still a few items you will need from around your house, but with these kits the list becomes extremely short. ~ Janice / Jerry

Category Description for Apologia Science:

Apologia Science courses are written from a Biblical worldview with the homeschool in mind. At the elementary level, courses follow a Charlotte Mason-inspired methodology, with lessons organized around narration, notebooking exercises and hands-on activities or projects. Children at different ages can use these together, learning at their own level. Each course is designed to be teacher-student interactive, so teacher involvement is fairly high at this level. At the junior high and high school levels, science courses are more traditional in nature, with the textbook written to the student. Teacher involvement time at this level is much less than at the elementary level. Textbooks contain student reading, lab instructions, "On Your Own" questions and Study Guide questions. A Solutions Manual provides the answers to these and the test questions. Lab kits are available separately for both the elementary and upper-level science courses which include most of the harder to find items you will need.

This looks like a fun interactive notebook! We used the notebook for the Anatomy book in this series last year. It gives space for kids to practice writing, to write in their own thoughts, includes a variety of activities and this book even gives space to record field trips! I can't wait to try the wall map mentioned in the write-up!

;what is the weight and book
dimension?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The book is 8 3/4"x 11" and weighs 2.5 pounds.
Are there quizzes or tests?
A shopper on Sep 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, but each chapter has a section called "What do you remember?" that gives your child an opportunity to recall what he's learned. You could use it like a test or quiz! They are question & answer format - no multiple choice. If you allow your child to narrate to you throughout the chapters as the readings prompt them, the review questions shouldn't be hard. The questions are in the textbook and in the notebooking journal. The answers can be found in the back of the textbook.
Is this hard cover or spiral bound?
A shopper on Mar 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Textbook is Hard cover, while the Notebooking Journal, if you order it, is spiral bound. The Notebooking Journal includes activities for the children to do (crossword puzzles, copy work, questions, space to write "interesting facts", mini-books, etc. and also has a really good section in the beginning for planning the pacing of the lessons.

I bought it together with Zoology Notebooking Journal for my 5th grader. She's enjoying every chapter of the book. My 3rd grader follows along. The book is filled with awosome info. It really exceeded my expectations. Very engaging. I would highly recommend it to everyone who shares creationistic views.

Elementary Science - Great for younger kids

My kids love this!
We are using this curriculum along with the notebook journal for middle school aged children. We have also used Zoology 1 and 2. It's great because they can work independently. The reading level is not too juvenile for them and I can adjust the difficulty level by simply requiring them to do more or fewer of the activities.

Zoology 3 is simply a treasure among science texts for children I am a Charlotte Mason homeschooler and don't usually use science texts for the elementary years We have always read real books from the library on whatever topic we were studying While this method has worked great for us in so many ways none of the available books were from a Christian perspective Still we found this the best available way to study science for the present Another problem was that my daughter is so used to good literature that science textbooks just didn't hold her interest After a field trip to the zoo one day she decided she wants to be a zoologist when she grows up I wanted to take full advantage of her excitement in that area while it still lasted so I let her pick a Zoology book out and we ordered it I have been so pleasantly surprised with this wonderful resource from Apologia! The text is incredibly interesting and I am learning things I never picked up from the library books or in my own education! This book is truly a "living book" in my opinion It is suitable for all ages as my 9 yr old my 15 yr old and I are all learning from it My 15 yr old is doing Apologia Biology and a lot of the chapters in Zoology cover similar things in a way that is much easier to understand but of course is not as in-depth I have him read any corresponding chapters from the Zoology text first so that he has a basic grasp of the subject before delving deeper with his highschool text We use this book like any "living book" in that I read it aloud to my 9 yr old and she narrates We have all learned so much from this lovely living science book and consider it a great addition to our home library

Zoology 3 (Land Animals) is my 9 year daughters favorite book It does involve quite of bit of reading so it may not be ideal for children who have difficulty reading I find the text is easy to read There are not any study questions so I write my own That way I know she is truly comprehending what she reads We plan on sticking with Apologia's Science books as the information is solid and I feel they will be well prepared for higher education

My daughter just FLEW through this book! She finished it in about 1-1/2 months time! We've done Astronomy Botany and Zoology 1 from the same series - all taking one year each This was quite a surprise to me! My daughter absolutely loved the book and found each animal encountered fascinating! I am now having her review by doing the lapbooks She is nearly finished with the first one - so the second CD-Rom is on order as is the Zoology 2 book and lapbook CD-Roms! Now that my daughter is 11 she is able to do the activities by herself which she is enjoying We highly recommend Zoology 3 - as well as all of the books put out by Apologia!
