Category Description for Pathway Reading - Grade 1:

Category Description for Pathway Reading:

An Amish reading program which portrays a lifestyle in which people cherish Christian traits, and in which children gain insights into how to behave! Families are large and stories are centered around the family and farm. The stories are interesting to children if our kids are any indicator! One of my favorites is a story from First Steps in which little Rachel discovers, after attempting to help mother shell peas, that watching baby Miriam really is a good way to help mother with meal preparations!

Although many of our customers use the readers as a standalone, we carry the complete reading program, including teacher's manuals, workbooks, and tests or quizzes where available. Instruction is plain and effective, with minimalistic black and white illustrations, which makes this series affordable and user-friendly. Please note that the Teacher's Manuals are necessary for Before We Read, First Steps, and Learning Through Sounds 1 and 2.

Package content varies. Each package includes the Student Text, Student Workbook, and Workbook Teacher Manual. Where available, packages also include the Tests and Test Answer Sheet and/or Quizzes and Answer Sheet. While these tests and answers are not part of the original Amish reading program, they were created to meet the needs of homeschooling parents outside the Amish classroom. Flashcards are included in the Grade 1 package. See individual packages for more information. Consumables are not reproducible, so each student will need his/her own workbook, tests, and quizzes.

Packages include the student text, student workbook, teacher edition of the workbook, test, and the test answer sheet.

We love Pathway Readers and I've used several following AAR 1 with my older children. I don't own this or First Steps, and I would like my 1st Grader to enjoy these readers now that she has completed AAR 1.

First Steps was great to help ease our 8 year old daughter into reading. She's much more confident now and she's looking forward to continuing with the series!

Awesome Readers. I had already 3 kids schooled into middle school and hightschool before I found these readers. Pathway readers are wonderful moral written books. My kids could always identify situations within them. The morals taught are priceless. I used them for out last 3 children. I recommend it. Also the price is amazing.

My girls like these sweet, simple books. And I don't mind listening to them, unlike other inane, poorly written readers.

We love this series of readers. There are Christian values being taught and solid character is being built. The workbooks that accompany them are great for teaching vocabulary, phonetic rules, and checking comprehension. A great all inclusive curriculum that is simple and complete.

Recommended by Simply Charlotte Mason group. Have a son who is struggling with reading at higher levels and I think these books will help with reviewing words and his thinking about what he is reading.

I am a reading tutor. My struggling students enjoy these books. They like reading "chapter books" that use many of the same words over and over, so they can increase their fluency in an applied setting, instead of only using flash cards.

Looking for good quality readers that teach good character.

I homeschooled my children many years ago and taught them to read with this wonderful series. I am looking at becoming a Grandmother one day and realized I had somehow lost several of the books during moves. I wanted to replace them before I had grandchildren.

Pathway Reading Series
I like the pathway reading series. They are good for beginners, and for remedial reading, teaching children to read out loud with confidence. You don't have to worry about the content as they have good wholesome stories.

I love this book
I love these readers! I purchased one for each of my two children (at this price, we don't need to share) along with the accompanying workbooks and teachers manual and could not be happier. The kids love the stories and are always excited to find out what happens next.

When my kids first saw the books, they both assumed that they couldn't read them because of the (relatively) large number of words on each page. Unlike the graded readers that we find at the library which have very few words yet include many that my children need help with, these books include only words appropriate to the reading level while systematically introducing new ones (the workbooks are instrumental in this). The result is an ENJOYABLE reading experience for all of us. My children's confidence in their reading abilities pretty much doubled on contact with these readers as they are able to read page after page with little or no help.

I really enjoy the morality lessons woven into the stories. So far they are centered around consideration for others and personal responsibility - two things I feel our society is greatly lacking. I like that they take place on the farm and that the children entertain themselves with the basics (dolls, wagons, dogs...). It really is refreshing for this urban mother. As of yet, I have not encountered any explicitly religious content, so it seems as though they would be appropriate for secular families as well.

I was impressed with these readers from the very first moment I began using them I have used them with all three of my homeschooled children and plan to use them with our forth next year They are easy to use and self explanatory I do use the workbooks and they are very useful and kept our kids' attention (which is important) My kids have different learning styles but they have all learned to read and have benefited from using Pathway readers I did not use the teachers manuals until the older grades but I believe it is a personal preference and depends on how much time you are willing to contribute to "finding" the answers in the stories I highly recommend these readers for children learning to read and for reading comprehension

I absolutely LOVE this reading program! I started homeschooling two years ago and bought the Pathway readers for two reasons: first the price was very reasonable and second I knew that the values presented from an Amish perspective would be in line with mine However after 13 years of teaching in traditional elementary classrooms I did not expect to be overly impressed with this series but boy was I wrong! This series does have great stories but it also has good reading comprehension questions vocabulary development phonics and grade-appropriate sight words for lower grades with practice for all of these skills in the workbooks I personally always use the workbooks but the books are so well-written with such warm and real characters that they're also wonderful on their own One note the teacher manuals are necessary for the first few books but not mandatory after that I truly believe that this is the best reading series for the money hands down!

The Pathway readers are among the best purchases I have ever made for homeschooling My son loved reading the books and was excited to see what Peter and Rachel and their friends would be doing on their farm each day There is absolutely nothing objectionable in these readers since they are written by and used in the Amish community The books build on each other and my son got hooked on the stories and wanted to keep reading them These books would complement any phonics/reading program you are already using I personally love using them over the summer to help with reading skills

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this series of books My son and I began with Days Go By (first grade primer) and I am getting ready to order the third grade books We are hooked! We use these books for the reading portion of our language arts study (in conjunction with Easy Grammar and Spelling to Write and Read) The stories are engaging offer wonderful morals and develop vocabulary The best part of the series is the workbooks There is a preparatory page for each story where the student is introduced to a handful of new words After reading there is a "Thinking About the Story" page The activities on these pages vary and introduce a wide range of skills Some examples include alphabetizing sequencing working with blends and digraphs and reading comprehensionI have saved all our books to use with my younger children because I feel they will appeal equally to boys and girls The only thing I will need to purchase is a new workbook for each child At $195 each that is affordable on any budget!I was skeptical when ordering because of the low price but I have now recommended them to others Reading time used to be a chore My son is now eager to read with me

These readers are amazing My daughter is interested in reading them and she is now reading fluently The stories are interesting and there are new words listed at the bottom of each page so that you can discuss them before a child tries to read them Also the companion workbook is great It reinforces spelling skills as well as reading comprehension This is an extremely well done set and I expect us to continue using it up through the last one
