# Dr. Wright's Kitchen Table Math

Math doesn½t have to be vague and hard to understand - Dr. Wright½s Kitchen Table Math is the resource that can make sense of math for you and your students. The information found in these books comes from the experience of the author and is presented in a logical sequence. The purpose of this series is to provide parents with clear, easy-to-do steps and activities that illustrate the methods of basic mathematics and help develop a child½s mathematical skills. Each chapter offers an explanation of a specific skill or concept with samples, followed by a varied number of lessons that offer clear information that can be demonstrated with items from around your house. Use pennies, craft sticks, or even Legos© to hone skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division, and pattern blocks are a tangible form for understanding patterns. Some lessons suggest using virtual manipulatives that can be found on the internet or show black & white graphics as an illustration of the skill. Use of household manipulatives isn½t always suggested, but can be done based on the explanation and graphics found in the lesson. Dr. Wright wants to be sure you don½t miss the important information and sets rules and math vocabulary in shaded boxes found throughout the lessons. The only thing missing in these books is the practice needed to strengthen the skills and Dr. Wright suggests adding worksheets that you might make yourself, or use this series alongside your curriculum for reinforcement and alternative explanation. MCP Mathematics is suggested by the author as a good choice to use with Dr. Wright½s series because of its logical progression and available samples.

Book 1 develops ability in counting to 100, single-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication & division, beginning fractions, simple equations, geometry, reasoning, measurement, time, and money. Book 2 works with multi-digit numbers in the areas of counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division & fractions, as well as chapters for number theory, number sense, number bases, and other number systems. Book 3 picks up where book 2 leaves off and continues with skills such as geometry, equations, word problems, probability, statistics, graphing, time, money and reasoning. There is an assumption of mastery with each level of this series, but you can skip back and forth between the books if needed. Included in each of the books are chapters on helpful manipulatives for teaching the concepts, games & activities, and additional resources.

Written for parents, this book will help put you at ease when it comes to teaching math to your children - specifically for parents who want to develop good math skills through exploration and fun, whether homeschooling or after schooling. Donna
