# CALC! Decks

This game offers an interesting twist on traditional math card games and really makes you think. Each card looks like a calculator. The answer appears on the screen and you can only use the numbers and signs shown on the buttons, once each. An easier one to solve is 34, and you have the numbers 7, 6, 3, 0, along with the minus and equal signs. Using each number and sign once, the answer is 70 36 = 34. A more challenging problem from Deck D is an answer of -0.875, which must be reached using 1, 2, 3, and the symbols for minus and equal along with y to the x power and +/-. I gave this one to Carl (one of our programmers) and he worked out the answer for me in about 5 minutes. These decks are intended to make you think and sharpen your math skills, whether you use a calculator, hone your mental math, or work on paper.

There are 100 double-sided cards in each. There is no answer key, so be sure the person checking the problems knows their math or has a calculator handy. A sheet of instructions is included with rules for playing the games. The goal of the basic game is to be the person with the most points and 2 or more players can play, but variations include adding a timer, playing multiple cards at one time, or playing alone or against the clock. After doing a few of these cards, I realized how rusty my math skills are, so these would probably be a great practice for the whole family. ~ Donna
