algebra 1
we used Saxon algebra for 9th and part of 10th. My son really likes it. He is pretty strong in his mathematical abilities though. He preferences figuring problems out on his own and then referencing with the text in most cases, unless he is really stumped. He enjoys a challenge. I found the course to be just that, challenging the course provides a lot of practice. The presentation is basic and the Cd's are useful. If you have a student with a relatively strong math foundation, I would recommend this course.

*highly* recommend the cd rom!!
We have used Saxon for junior high and it went fine except for a few bumps (Which Ina,ways contributed to my lack of math enthusiasm). The cd rom for this coarse has been terrific for my daughter. She consistently scores 95100% on her tests. No tears. No dreading doing Algebra. She loves it. She's actually tutored a friend. We will continue with saxon math & cd instruction for the rest of her high school career.

Thorough Curriculum
I am really impressed with this curriculum. I like the repetition of skills. The Teacher DVD allows my daughter to be more independent with her math lessons. Unfortunately, it's a little intense for my dyslexic learner, so we will be switching to a different curriculum for next year.

My daughter started Algebra without using the CDs She started sinking fast Normally very bright and self taught individual I was afraid she was at the wrong level I made her start over and use the CDs Relunctantly she did Instantly I saw a huge improvement She seldom misses any problems She can also stop the "teacher" while she is working before moving ahead It is very user friendly

Yes, Algebra 1/2 is the next course after 8/7 however, I did not ever use Algebra 1/2 if your student does well in 8/7, I would go directly to Algebra 1. Algebra 1/2 is more of a review of 8/7. There is really no need to use the "in between course" unless, of course, your student could use the extra review.

If your student needs extra practice before going on to Algebra 1, then use Algebra 1/2 after 8/7. From what I understand, both Saxon 8/7 and Algebra 1/2 prepare the student for Algebra 1. Each textbook uses a bit different approach. If you Google your question, you will get additional information on this topic.

Saxon Algebra 1/2 is for students who struggled in Saxon 8/7 and need more time before starting algebra. My son did well with Saxon 8/7, so he went directly into Algebra 1.

1/2 can be skipped if the student is strong in math. My children were not as strong so I used this to reinforce Algebra before moving on.

Algebra 1 3rd Edition Saxon Home Study Kit plus DIVE CDROM
BEST ANSWER: The teacher cdrom teaches each lesson word for word from the book. The dive cd teaches each lesson with unique problems, so you can always go to the lesson and read it for further practice.

I would like to say that if you use the Dive you will need the Solutions Guide. I have used the Teacher CD's more than the Dive and have more success with the Teacher CD's than the Dive. Dive is wonderful but you will spend more money in the long run if you find the need for the solutions. For Algebra I would definitely use the Teacher CD's.

Reply

Reply

Saxon Algebra 1/2 is for students who struggled in Saxon 8/7 and need more time before starting algebra. My son did well with Saxon 8/7, so he went directly into Algebra 1. Reply

1/2 can be skipped if the student is strong in math. My children were not as strong so I used this to reinforce Algebra before moving on. Reply

Algebra 1/2 is preAlgebra, so that would be what you would do after 8/7. Reply

Reply
