Worth the Money
I am a veteran homeschool mom and I bought All About Spelling because I thought that it would be good for my active son who is already reading and spelling some; but, had gaps to fill in. I am very pleased. It's a pleasure to use because the layout is organized and simple and the kinesthetic use of the letter tiles and tokens keeps my son focused. In the past, I have used the typical books that give a list each week to drill and quiz; but, those weren't very effective because once the quiz was done, they forgot those words' spelling! All About Spelling uses the same approach to the phonograms as The Writing Road to Reading; but, I could never get enthusiastic about that program - somehow I just felt overwhelmed by the format. With All About Spelling, it's fun. I love the file system for the flash cards - what a great way to keep track of what needs to be drilled, what's been mastered, etc. Why didn't I think of that! So far, this program has given me a couple other 'Aha' moments, too!

Favorite curriculum!
This is probably my favorite homeschool curriculum of any subject. I didn't know how to teach spelling before getting this and didn't want to just make my daughter memorize lists of words. As soon as we started AAS, her spelling improved dramatically. Love the hands on approach and systematic teaching of spelling rules. Even I am learning things I didn't know and I'm a natural speller!

My kids and I found all the activities overwhelming. It might be great for hands-on learners who like a lot of activity, but my kids dreaded it every day.

Such a nice change!!
Whew!! This curriculum is a nice change!! We used a different one... It was so difficult to get started! Oh my! my kids fought me EVERYDAY! It’s nice to be able to just open and go! My kids love it! The lessons are not long and drawn out! I wish I had known about this 3 years ago! I would totally recommend it!!!!

Improvement in retention of spelling rules after only 1 month
We have been doing All About Spelling for about a month, and I am seeing much better retention of spelling rules for my 3rd grader who has struggled with retaining new spelling rules prior to this method. It does require a lot of teacher involvement. Her last spelling curriculum was more workbook style.

Love it!
Orton-Gillingham based. SO easy to implement. I have 2 other OG curriculums but they were too difficult to teach. I can't rate this high enough. 100% recommend.

Love how logical and clearly it sets everything out!
Its my first year homeschooling. I use All About Spelling for my 2nd and 4th grade boys. My 4th grader really struggles with spelling and one of my key objectives for the year is to get his spelling up to speed.

This system is a dream to work with. The kit includes everything, it is so neatly set out and well explained and organized and logically arranged. I love it.

As recommended, I started with Level 1 to make sure I had all the building blocks. It was a little too easy for my both my boys- even for my 2nd grader who is a quick learner - and we flew through it doing 1 step a day. Although some of the rules and principles are a good refresher and its good to get into the methods for Level 1 I really only needed to get the teachers guide. We did not need the student packet with all the flash cards as the boys already had mastered everything and we just needed a quick refresher. So it was quite an expensive investment. But I have a kindergartener coming through so will not be wasted.

We are now going through level 2, and I again have got the full pack to make sure we don't miss out on anything. We are still managing to go quickly through it, but there are now some things that are new teaching for the boys.

Overall I highly recommend this system but wish there was a way to have a review of the key principles without having to go from the beginning and risk boring the children and wasting time and money on covering things they already know.

Excellent program
My son has dyslexia and really struggles with spelling and reading. I started this program about 6 weeks ago (in conjunction with All About Reading) and highly recommend them both. He has a tutor that is using Orton Gillingham and this complements her teaching perfectly. He did place in level 2 per the placement test and after getting it I decided to order level 1 and begin there. I felt I was missing some things without that. We are able to move through that level at a faster pace, will be sure all elements are covered and then will proceed to level 2. It is a very organized, strategic curriculum and is very easy to teach. Best program I have found for a struggling learner!

I have been researching multi sensory, mastery based programs with a very hands on approach and have decided on this one. I chose your site to order from as the All About Learning Press site charges over $50.00 to ship to Canada!

Tried MCP Spelling Workout with my daughter and wasn't thrilled with the method or the result. I moved her into Sequential Spelling and it clearly wasn't working for her - she really needs something visual that she can manipulate. Fingers crossed that this is the answer!

This curriculum comes highly recommended to me by other homeschool Moms. Also, my beginning reader is struggling with phonograms, etc. All About Spelling will help her get a firm grasp which will in turn improve her reading!

After 15 years of homeschooling, this is the best program I've found. So much like OG/Wilson method, but for us non-professional mommies! Thank you, AALearning Press for making this accessible to us! Thank you, Rainbow Resource for carrying it!

This spelling program was highly recommended for my child by the Woodcock Johnson test administrator after his test showed spelling was an area he was weak in.
Naomi B on Jul 20, 2018
I haven't tried spelling yet, but I have been very happy with all about reading program. My 2nd grader is easily picking up reading and is able to read beyond what we've learned. I fully credit this to such a solid program which lays a good foundation for reading.

BEST ANSWER: AAS Level 1 should actually be started with AAR Level 2, after you have finished AAR Level 1. If you already have the letter tiles from AAS, then you don't necessarily need to buy an interactive kit. The divider cards are different between AAS and AAR, but you can actually buy those separately on the All About Learning Press website. Hope that helps!
Why is there no information on whether this is PDF or printed or both?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The teacher's manual is a soft cover book. The student packet consists of various papers and cards, mostly on card stock. The cards are still all attached on perforated paper and you will need to separate them and organize them. On the All About Learning Press website, there is a place to print extra copies of the student progress chart and achievement certificate. Click on the student packet for whichever level you want and scroll down. You should see it. Nothing in this set is a PDF.
What do I need to purchase to get started with All About Spelling?
A shopper on May 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Level 1 Materials include a Teacher Book and a Student Kit (i.e. cards). In addition to these Level 1 Materials, you will need either the Basic or the Deluxe Interactive kit. These supply the letter tiles and magnets as well as the dividers for the cards. The Deluxe kit also provides a tote bag and storage box (i.e. review box) for the cards. For subsequent AAS levels, all you will need to purchase is the Materials set for the level.
Do the tiles match the All About Reading tiles?
A shopper on Aug 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the tiles do match the All About Reading tiles, but if you have an older version of the Spelling program (level 2 and up), then 3 of the syllable tiles have been renamed and reillustrated--the CLE is now called "pickle", the VCE is now renamed "name game" and has a new picture with it, and the r-controlled syllable tag is now called "bossy r" and has new graphics. Same concepts.
