Great Product
So far the All About Reading has been a great investment. We have tried several other reading programs and they just didn't work.

Great Program.
We have tried a whole bunch of different reading programs for my 7 year old and this one has been our favorite. He has finally started making progress in reading. It is nice how simple it is for me to teach each lesson. My son loves the readers, every day he asks me if he can read them. The readers are cute and engaging. The letter tiles are great to work with too, I like how he can visually see individual letter sounds combine to make a word. This has helped him tremendously at learning to decode and he's finally sounding out words correctly.

Love it!
This is a wonderful reading curriculum! I have a child with a severe form of Apraxia. He is nonverbal. We’ve tried many reading curriculums before, but never found one that has worked for us. All about Reading is very helpful for my child. We use it together with the Letter Tiles app.
One of my other kids has struggled to learn to read. Thanks to AAR he is finally able to read! This is a multisensory curriculum. It is easy to use as a teacher, and it makes the lessons fun for the kids.

Excellent for different learning types
We love this reading program! That said, there's a lot of work that comes with it. I skip most of the activity worksheets and we just do the fluency check unless they're struggling and need more review. If you're the type that feels the need to do every single thing in a curriculum, be aware, this curriculum has a lot of worksheets but it's a solid and excellent program. Level 1 feels like it goes slow but somewhere in the middle of level 2 it all comes together and they take off as an independent reader.

Reading Well
The small snippets of information for my child each day, review, and multi-sensory approach is working well. I purchased the app that can be used with All About Reading and All About Spelling and that makes learning fun, too. My child was struggling with reading and we've tried a few different curriculums. This one is worth the cost. We are a month into using this and already I see improvement and less struggle with reading.

A big fan of All About Reading and Spelling
The cards are great. I keep them in a $1 pencil box from Walmart... I already had the tiles and whiteboard. The concept of pulling down tiles and spelling/sounding out the word is great. I'm using this program along with All About Spelling. Also, I'm doing this with my 13 yr old who went to public school and does not know how to sound out words. Great phonics program!

Enjoying the Multiple Tools for Reading Practice
Although my five year old and I have not gotten too far in the materials yet, we have both been enjoying them. Using the flashcards, magnets, and worksheets, along with the short stories has allowed him to practice the same sounds without getting bored (a previous curriculum we tried was too dull to hold his attention). The parent instructions are clear and, and I appreciate the emphasis on just spending time reading and practicing, and not being concerned with finishing a whole lesson each day. Thus far I would highly recommend!

I've tried several reading curriculums with my son so far, and we get stuck on each one, where he just can't seem to get any further. I'm not sure if he is dyslexic or not, so I figured I would finally just choose a curriculum that would cover that base if he is.

It was recommended to me because my son is getting bored with his current Homeschool reading materials.

I've used the All About Reading, Level 1 first edition and although it was very good for my firstborn, I think my other child would benefit from the changes that have been made in this second edition.

Amanda C on Oct 15, 2018
Actually have had fun with the Pre-Reading version, in which, we did to make sure of a solid foundation although my child already new letters and letter sounds. Although, review in that aspect there are still the activities that are introduced throughout that make it all the more interesting for the child so we will move on to Level 1.

All About Reading has been very helpful for my children to learn to read. Dyslexia runs in our family and this has helped my 9 year old progress. She is doing great. She isn't at grade level, but she loves to read independently. I am ordering this level because they updated Level 1 and I needed to replace my old set so I could get the materials for my student.

Is this just a Phonics program? Would this cover Literature and Comprehension and Grammar?
Sarah on May 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: For the most part, yes, the primary focus is on phonics and the mechanics of learning HOW to read. The stories at this level are very basic with controlled vocabulary that coordinates with the phonics learned up to that point. Depending on the age of your child, literature and reading comprehension is easily achieved by reading aloud quality literature and asking questions now and then to check for comprehension. Check out the Read-Aloud Revival with Sarah Mackenzie for free lesson ideas. For grammar, this depends on the age of your child and your personal goals. Many do not start formal grammar instruction until third grade. However, there are several grammar workbooks available at the first/second grade level.
Hope that helps!

Does all about spelling level 1 coincide with all about reading level 1. Also, do I need the basic interactive kit if I purchased the all about spelling level 1?

BEST ANSWER: AAS Level 1 should actually be started with AAR Level 2, after you have finished AAR Level 1. If you already have the letter tiles from AAS, then you don't necessarily need to buy an interactive kit. The divider cards are different between AAS and AAR, but you can actually buy those separately on the All About Learning Press website. Hope that helps!
My almost 5 year old knows all of his sounds and is already reading phonetic words. We just started working on 5 sight words with a game and flashcards. what level do you suggest he starts in? thanks! :-)
A shopper on Dec 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you look at the table of contents it’ll give you an idea of if you can skip level one and go to two or not. I’d go with level one. My daughter was able to sound out basic cvc words but I went with level one bc it’s builds a good foundation of not just sounding out words but also building stamina to read longer stories. The first 1/4 might be review for you like they were for us but I’m glad we did it. We have about 10 more lessons and theres quite a bit in the last half she didn’t know and the stories have gotten longer and longer. Hope that helps!
We've taken the placement tests, but I'm not sure whether we need Level 1 or 2. My son is fine with ALL of level 1's questions, and only missing two on Level 2. We completed Saxon K Phonics. Which level would you suggest?

BEST ANSWER: If your student has a solid grasp of short and long vowel sounds, consonant blends, and is already reading simple sentences independently, I would recommend starting with level 2. Hope this helps!
Is this program for Kindergarten?
Sylvia M on Jun 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can check out the placement charts on the All About Reading Website to see which level your child is ready for. All About Reading is not grade-based, it is based on what your child is ready for, it doesn't matter what age or grade they are in. If your child knows the sounds for the basic phonograms, and is ready to learn to read, then this would probably be the level to start with.
Can I use the 1st edition teacher's manual that I already own with the 2nd addition Blast Off to Reading student workbook?
A shopper on Apr 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Can I mix and match editions of the Level 1 Teacher's Manual, Student Packet, activity book, and readers?
A. The two editions of Level 1 cannot be mixed and matched. Since so much new content was added to the Second Edition of Level 1, it would be very difficult to use part of it in conjunction with the First Edition of Level 1. For example, you can't use the First Edition of the Teacher's Manual with the Second Edition readers.
I plan to use this for two students. What items do I need to purchase separately?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am using it only for one student and he hasn't gotten that far into it yet; however, if you are using AAR Level 1 for two students at the same time, the only items that you should need two of are the phonogram and word cards, divider cards, and reading review box (I use a generic index card holder that I got from an office supply shop as I got the basic kit). You can copy the activity book pages (I checked the copyright information inside it when I first got it and it's permitted); however, if you don't have a copier, you might be able to still get by without ordering a second one if you modify some activities (i.e. don't paste when it says cut and paste), but it'd be easier to buy two. As for the progress chart and completion certificate that come in the activity book, you can print out a second copy from the AAR website if you don't have a copier.
Is there a list of each of the items included in a given product somewhere? Not just a picture, but a written list? Shouldn't that be in the description of the product?
A shopper on Jun 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We do try to have a list of the set components with each product listing. However, this is a very new item and we don't yet have a list attached to this item. However, the components are the same as the previous edition - it's just that some of those components have been revised. Set components: Includes Teacher's Manual, Student Packet w/ Activity Book, Run, Bug, Run!, Runt Pig, and Cobweb the Cat.
