My daughters are so excited to use these! Love the book contest idea! Only thing is I wish they could be typed. My girls think it would seem more like a “real book” if they could have typed print in their stories. We’ve been making our own hand written books using your Blank Books, but they think a “real book” should be typed.

Really just paper . . .
One could easily do the same thing with any of the photobook companies (Shutterfly, etc.) and have far more options and control. The idea is good and the contest is cool, but other than that? Not my cup of tea.

My child had fun doing this last year. But I didn't notice there was an extra step that needed to be done to actually submit the book to the contest. We got the book, but did not enter the contest. This year we plan to do both!

Is the shipping free for the summer writing contest kit?
Heather P on Apr 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, shipping will be free for the summer writing contest. However, the free shipping will not be in effect until the contest kicks off on May 1st. Also, if you order online, you will have to pay the shipping initially and then we will refund it back to you after the order is processed. If you place a phone order, the shipping can be taken off before your card is charged.
May I use the Lulu Jr. Illustory Make Your Own Book! kit from last year's contest, to enter the mystery book contest for this year?
A shopper on Jul 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Possibly. You will need to check the expiration date of the kit. If it is still good, then you may use it with no problems. If the expiration date has expired, you will need to contact Explain the situation and ask to use the old kit for our current contest.
Do you need to purchase a kit for each child or can a family share?

Illustory: Create Your Own Book!
Illustory: Create Your Own Book!
BEST ANSWER: For the contest, there can only be one child per entry. However, if you wish to create a family book without submitting for contest, then that can be done.
can you type this year? Or do you have to write it. Thanks
A shopper on May 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Books used as contest entries must be handwritten.
Can I buy 1 box for 3 different books/authors? Or, do I need to buy 1 box per child?
A shopper on Apr 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will need one box per child. Each box/kit is for one book and for one child.
I see that the kit says "item no longer available." Is it permissible to purchase the kit elsewhere and still enter the contest?
Thank you!
A shopper on Jul 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you may do so as long as it is the exact same IlluStory product.
Can you add pages to the kit if you run out of space?
A shopper on Jul 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No you cannot.
Is 18 pages the max you can have or is it the minimum?
A shopper on Apr 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Both. If you submit more than 18 pages, only the first 18 will be printed. If you submit less, your book will have blank pages.
In the Historical Fiction contest rules, it says "if you prefer a more text-heavy story, be sure to include a minimum of one illustration per two-page spread. However, the pages in the kit have specified areas for text and illustrations and are printed on one side only. I would like to know whether I can make my own pages (following the template's margins, of course) or whether there is some other way to address this problem. Would you consider this? Thanks!
A shopper on Apr 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Even though you are creating one-side only single pages, they will be printed as facing pages. If you wish to add extra text for a two-page spread, you can convert illustration space into text apace by adding lines, if necessary. You do need to make sure there is one illustration for each two-page spread.
I have three children, ages 7-10. Would it be possible to have them work on a book together and submit it as a group project, without my help?
User on Apr 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: In terms of the contest, it should be one author per book. If you are only interested in having the book printed, then you can decide to do it any way you wish but for the contest submissions, there needs to be only a single author submitted under a single name.
If we bought a few of these for next year would they be able to be bound still? Is there a time limit on bounding the books?
A shopper on Mar 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: There is an expiration on the kits. The date varies depending on when we receive them into the warehouse. All are active and won't expire prior to the contest deadline but we couldn't make any guarantees for next year. I'm sorry.
Does this price include the book being printed and shipped back to you? Also, do the kids get to keep the printed copy, or do they have to mail it into the Summer book contest (if participating in the summer book contest)?
A shopper on Mar 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the kit price includes the printing and shipping charges. You keep the printed the copy, we will read a digital copy for the contest.
If we have a US mailbox, but live just across the border in Canada, can we still participate in the contest?
A shopper on Jul 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: At this time, the contest is only open to US residents.
