Foundations of Personal Finance
I hesitated to buy this curriculum because of the price. However, I did buy it for my teenagers and it is so good I'm going through it with them. I think this is a must for every high school kid and it was worth every penny.

We have used Financial Peace for our own personal journey, and felt this course by Dave Ramsey would be an excellent Consumer Math credit for our high schooler.

Dave Ramsey is my hands down favorite GURU for all things financial. We have followed his plan for over 5 years now, and it's time my high school age students get a solid foundation in money matters, and we pick Dave to do just that.

I want a super practical course for my son (a senior this year) on how to manage money that is current, interesting, and not too reading-heavy. I'm excited about the DVD/workbook format, and after looking at the free download sample I'm convinced it's going to be just what we're looking for.
Gretchen P on Aug 9, 2017
Using this as a high school elective. I read Dave Ramsey's other book and I'm looking forward to going through this with my high school senior.

What is the difference between the 2008 and 2014 editions? I have the 2008, but am wondering if there is enough value added to purchase the 2014.
A shopper on Mar 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: One parent who has used the two previous editions of this course noted that it now includes instruction on the valuable skill of balancing your checking account, the importance of student budgeting, the role of money in interpersonal relationships, career planning, resumes, interview basics, a summary of income and taxes, and the importance of giving your time, money, and talents to help others.
What is the copyright date of this edition? I have the DVDs from what might be a previous edition (2008)and wondered if the current student book will work with my DVDs. Does anyone have experience with this?
Karen A on Jul 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My DVDs and workbook are both copyright 2014, so I'm not sure if your DVDs from 2008 can be used with the current workbook. Sorry I can't help.
What grade/age would you recommend a high school student take the course? Would you do it right away (gr. 9) or leave it until the senior years? Thanks in advance!
A shopper on Feb 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would recommend your high school student taking this course no earlier than 10th grade. The chapters/video instruction talks much about the student having to have income/outcome, in order to balance a budget. This could be baby sitting $, or income from bake sales, or a part-time job, or allowance. Point being, the student will have more opportunities to utilize the course instruction to its fullest if they have a checking account , or more experience with income. (this could be a small amount) -just to get experience with budgeting. It is a thorough course, with much info. given about the economy, money behaviors, and is well balanced including tithing, and giving as well! Its a must for all students to learn how to deal with and manage $ for the rest of their life, all based on biblical principles. Hope you enjoy!
Can you use just the book, or is it a must to have the DVDs also?
A shopper on Feb 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The course is taught from the DVDs and it cannot be done without them. The speakers are very engaging and the course is well worth the money. I highly recommend it.
How many hours of work is this? Could it be considered a semester of high school math?
A shopper on May 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The syllabus that comes with the course suggests spending about 50 minutes a day on each assignment. However, some days didn't require nearly that amount of time, and other days more time was required, particularly if your student does the research and essay projects.

No, you could not count this as a semester of high school math.

I would highly recommend this course for all high school students as it will provide them with a wealth of practical knowledge. If your child actually applies the principles that he learns in this course to his daily living, he will most assuredly build a firm financial foundation that will benefit him for the rest of his life.
Does this curriculum contain any sectarian content?
User on May 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, our records indicate that it does not.
does this curriculum have sectarian content?
A shopper on May 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't think that any of the lessons were overtly "Christian" in their speech, but I am a Christian so I was coming at it from that worldview. I watched most of them with my kids and they talk about things such as "giving to charity" etc. but kind of in a vague way. It was a great course for my high schoolers and I think would be even more beneficial for a young college student. We really liked it.
