I ordered the Classical Phonics: Childs Guide to Word Mastery to have a reference list for phonemic rules to reading and spelling. I have used the ABekah Book Reading Handbook with my elder 3 children. However, for my 4th child, the amount of text on a page seemed overwhelming. I'm hoping that this edition with the larger print, and less information per page will help him in his reading progress.

Is this the only phonics book your child needs or do you need another level?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This book is meant to be a supplement, not a full phonics program.
In the preface Cheryl Lowe writes, "The beautiful simplicity of Classical Phonics keeps everybody focused. It is a compendium of all of the phonics the child learns in K-2 in a handy little review book. Whatever phonics program you are using, Classical Phonics can be your vademecum (go-with-me) review book for years to come."
It starts with simple, single letter sounds and works through all the major phonics rules (short vowels, silent e and long vowel teams, blends, consonant teams, r-controlled vowels).
I found this to be a helpful supplement with Veritas Press Phonics Museum for both kindergarten and first grade. It was very useful for extra practice and review.
Does anyone know how this compares to other Florence Akin/Word Mastery inspired phonics programs like Eclectic Foundations? What if I want to start spelling at the kindergarten level, has anyone been able to match up this with a decent spelling program?

BEST ANSWER: Although I do not know the Florence Akin inspired phonics, I do know that this pairs well with the Memoria Press First Start Reading Program (Kindergarten Level) and the Memoria Press Spelling Program First and Second Grades.
Memoria Press First Start Reading incorporates spelling lists and dictation for Kindergarteners at about week 10 of their program.
