Category Description for Calculus: Early Transcendental Functions
Calculus courses for homeschool are few and far between, but here is one to add to the short list of viable homeschool calculus options. This new 4th edition text is designed as a 3semester engineering calculus course and is recommended for use in the Veritas 11th and 12th grade course guide. Chapters open with a description of a concept and a question about its real world application, such as the velocity of a jet and the propulsion of a spacecraft away from the earth. Introduction to differential equations is done during the first semester of the course in preparation for other courses. Revised exercise sets are rigorous and the data is more current. Short bios of historical mathematicians and explorations are scattered throughout to keep the text interesting and applicable.
Chapters cover preparation for calculus, limits and their properties, differentiation, applications of differentiation, integration, differential equations, applications of integration, integration techniques/improper integrals, infinite series, conics/parametric equations/polar coordinates, vectors, functions of several variables, multiple integration, and vector analysis. Every chapter includes projects and a review. An answer key is included at the back of the book for oddnumbered problems, as well as appendices with proofs, integration tables, business and economic applications, precalculus review, rotation and the general seconddegree equation, and complex numbers.
The Study and Solutions Guideoffers solutions to oddnumbered problems with all essential algebraic steps.
Instructional DVDs provide coverage of the textbook concepts with additional explanation, sample problems, and applications. These would be helpful for review of a topic, to prepare for a test, or for more independent learning. Videos can be viewed on a DVD player or computer with a DVD drive.
The Math Space CD includes prerequisite skill practice, solutions to oddnumbered exercises, 'TryIts' and their solutions, graphs, labs, algebra and trigonometry review and much more very helpful for students who don't have access to classroom resources. Get prepared for college with this extremely meaty, 1000+ page math course! Hc. ~ Donna
