I purchased this item because I was interested in a book I could use as a supplement for next year's Middle Ages focus for an active 6th grader I was drawn to it because it is titled "Great Medieval Projects" which to me implied that it would be a "project" book While it does have some interesting and a few unique projects the book is not centered around activities and projects as I had hoped (In practice the number of projects diminishes even more when feasibilty time interest and resources are accounted for) As a small box in the corner on the front cover states "focus on social studies" so does my summary of the actual content of this book The format is like a typical social studies book no color pictures but very nice black and white illustrations Great Medieval Projects presents a general Medieval period survey with historical facts descriptions of every day life with vocabulary words and projects scattered here and there This book could work as an efficient unit study as well as general/supplementary reference for middle grades however I found the title to be misleading

This is a WONDERFUL Christian view text of the Middle Ages! It's not just a book full of projects oh no! My children enjoyed the wonderfully written histories the awesome graphics and exciting biographies as much as doing the projects! It's packed with historical information and he "Words to Know" feature is great for vocabulary enhancement! It's hands-on visual and verbal learning all together This book enhanced my 7th graders view of this era and my 3rd grader saw it all for the first time - together! Wonderful value - It doesn't have the resource list like in Story of the World but it definitely enhances one's experience of the time! I will buy the Colonial Civil War and Pioneer books for next year's study of US History!
