A Math Program that actually gets done!
We've been using this for almost a month, and love it so far!
For the first time we were able to do math every day of the week.
The program is simple, pretty open and go, but it's challenging at the same time and it gets their nogging working.
The mastery approach provides plenty of practice if they need before moving on, but it also makes it easy to skip ahead if they've mastered a subject.
Also, at the beggining of each new section there's a list with links to online games or videos of the subject being introduced. We haven't needed to use them yet, but it looks very helpful.

Love this!
I love this math program. I have tried several, including Abeka. It explains things in interesting ways that I have not seen before. Even though you don't have manipulatives to touch (although you can get your own) there are manipulatives printed on the paper so that your visual child can "get" it. So far there are also lots of story problems that are very helpful I think in helping the child know how to apply what they've been learning. It is engaging, and keeps the child interested by doing different things. They focus on only 1 thing at a time, but they do that one thing so many different ways that it doesn't seem like they're doing the same thing over and over. And it really works each concept into the childs' long term memory. We only do two pages a day, and it is not overwhelming. I like that there is no teacher prep also. Abeka was overwhelming for me in that area. Just open and learn with your child! If you feel they need extra practice in a certain area, Maria has videos on how to do that by practicing a few minutes a day on a dry erase board. Very simple. Love, love this, and plan on doing this again next year for my (now) 2nd and 4th graders. I got my 2nd grader Grade 1 and my 4th grader grade 3. It's a lot of review, but I didn't want gaps and they are learning some things they hadn't in their previous curriculum, so I'm glad for the review. So glad we don't dread math time anymore!!

Like the program, would love a different format
Math Mammoth seems like a great program but we have only been using it for a few weeks. You really can't beat it for the price. However, I would be willing to pay a bit extra for a teachers manual that I could use to write notes in for future reference that also had ideas for introducing new concepts. With that being said, each chapter does have an intro with tips, tricks, and thinks to look out for. I just resorted to writing notes to myself in the child's workbook after the lesson and will use that as my teacher's guide in future years. Also, I wish a spiral bound option of the colored edition was available as sometimes the kids have a hard time keeping it open to the correct page.

Excellent Book for kids who 'get' math concepts quickly
Have used Math Mammoth with two of my children, and it is a great curriculum for them! It covers all bases and moves at a fast pace. Kids have to sort of master things like addition and multiplication facts on the side, there aren't tons of drills in the chapters themselves. For kids who need a lot of reinforcement when they are introduced to new concepts, I would recommend another series as it moves quickly. But for kids who grasp new math concepts quickly and do not need a lot of repetition, Math Mammoth is terrific! Allows kids to move quickly, learn all the basics, and have plenty of time for other things (be it more math or something else!). Love the frequent reviews and cumulative reviews as well. The author, Maria Miller, really put together a solid math curriculum! For teachers, a wonderful feature is that there is no separate teachers prep manual- all instructions are right there in the work book. So kids who are very independent can do a lot of math on their own. Thanks, Maria Miller!!

We have the digital version and it's cheaper to buy this than to have it printed. My kids LOVE math mammoth-it explains everything easy enough for both my children! I cannot recommend it enough.

I picked this curriculum as a supplement to another that I am using. It has clear and concise instructions for the child and is completely different from our every day curriculum. Check out the samples on samples on the math mammoth web site

This is for my 5 year old son. I am hoping it’s a bit more challenging than kindergarten math. He is a bright child.

We've been using the Grade 3-A Worktext for our oldest (we're new to homeschooling this year). I've been very happy so far. It's all laid out very clearly, with plenty of practice. If he has a good grasp on something we don't complete all the practice, but save those problems to review on future days, and if he needs more practice we can repeat or use her recommended resources.

I have heard nothing but good things about this curriculum. I have research a lot about math curriculum and after staying and playing on their website for hours I decided to make the jump. It's a great price also.

Like it because it has colors, and it's not expensive. Also, it explains the concepts very well and it also allows students to work on their own. I like Mammoth very much.

I did extensive online research on available Grade 1 homeschool math curricula and Mammoth came up positively in many reviews. I then gathered sample pages from as many offerings as possible and the tutor (Mom) tried them out with the student. Out of the 3-4 programs I was considering, Mammoth had the most intuitive and appealing materials.

If you are looking for a mastery curriculum that is strong in number sense, easy to use, and economical try this program. We've used this program for over three years now. I had a question about the program and emailed the author. She responded that day. She also has a helpful blog and newsletter. I've been using the downloaded version and love the free softpack that includes extra worksheets and quizzes but find I personally do better with an actual book.

This is a good, solid series for learning math facts in early grades. She has excellent explanations and there's no teacher's manual, which should be unnecessary at this grade anyway!

Does the colored version worktext come bound or loose? What kind of binding?
A shopper on Jul 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I believe it is a glued binding, like normal paperbacks. If you’d like it loose, any copy Center (like Staples) should be able to cut off the spine for a couple of dollars. I’ve done that with cookbooks before.
