Actually tested out of this text
Our son actually tested out of this text when he completed the lessons from 6/5 (saxon placement) and he is now doing 8/7 math in 6th grade and I am confident that next year he will be ready for Algebra 1

Good math option
Easy to follow, wish it had color, the teacher manual only gives answers, no explanation for solutions.

6th Grade Math
My 6th grader is taking this math right now. So far I love it. I really appreciate how they review the lessons in the next days problems, so that each lesson continues together. Problems are explained very well for both of us to follow along.

2nd year with saxon math and loving it!
Last year, my fifth grade completed math 6/5 in 8 months basically self led except for grading. It is the best math program we have found and she tested high on the CAT test in the spring. She is 10 chapters in with book 7/6 and hopes to complete it before spring :) ( that takes about two hours a day 3-4 days a week)

I really like it!
My complaint with my sons math program was that once he learned a new concept it wasn't brought up again. It was just on to the next thing. I love how this one repeats problems from previous lessons. He is retaining much better!

Saxon is the best math program out there for homeschoolers...my opinion of course!:)
Kathy Y on Apr 22, 2019
For Homeschool. I already used Saxon math for my daughter and we are moving up to the next level. Great math curriculum!
Teresa M on Apr 12, 2019
We needed to switch my son from a mastery program (not enough review/retention) to a spiral program and Saxon was recommended by a guest speaker at a local homeschool group
User on Apr 4, 2019
Our family has benefited greatly from the Saxon math programs. We will continue using them through middle school and high school.
Jerry W on Mar 26, 2019
Saxon has proved very thorough and pairs well with Nicole the Math Ladies on line Saxon Math courses.
Angela M on Mar 25, 2019
My daughter is struggling in math, we are hopeful after reviewing Saxon this could be just what she needs!
Dean S on Feb 13, 2019
My son has consistently chosen the Saxon Math program each year. He has been presented other choices, but feels most comfortable with this approach.
Lisa L on Feb 4, 2019
Love Saxon Math!
User on Dec 14, 2018
My 7th grader needed a math book that was at his level. The one we chose was 7th and up and it ended up being way too hard. We picked this one because we also have a 6th grader and thought they might enjoy working on similar things.
Gabe and John W on Dec 5, 2018
We've always done Saxon.
Allissa B on Nov 14, 2018
I like the spiral approach to math instead of the mastery based and I feel Saxon is extremely thorough. We have used Teaching Textbooks and Khan Academy in elementary school, but my sons have preferred Saxon for middle school.
Crystal W on Nov 8, 2018
To get the updated version of this book. We had the 1st edition, with no tests or worksheets.
Cheryl Z on Oct 23, 2018
I have a friend whose daughter is in college now. She used Saxon. The professors are asking her to help them tutor other students.
Jen G on Oct 17, 2018
We love how simple this makes math for kids. They explain it well & have great examples to follow for reference when doing the problems. My boys have done this math all through their schooling & have done very well with it, & now that we are homeschooling this year we know that it will be just as easy to learn at home for first time homeschoolers. There is excellent variety in each lesson & we love how they carry over what you learn the previous day into the following days for solid understanding

we used saxon 6/5 last year and loved it. My daughter was able to work at her own pace and with limited help from me, and the accomplishment she felt when she completed the book was her favorite memory from 5th grade. She loves math and considers herself very good at it, and that is in large part thanks to the logical way that is taught in the Saxon series.
sharadee w on Aug 6, 2018
It was highly recommended.
Corinna J on Aug 2, 2018
We wanted the student to have to think more about which kind of equation was at hand.
John D on Aug 1, 2018
Saxon Math just makes sense. :)
Laura A on Jul 31, 2018
We are continuing Saxon since we have used it from the beginning.

Catherine G on Jul 16, 2018
This is the level the Saxon evaluation said we should get. I'm crossing my fingers and trusting all the rave reviews that say Saxon is the way to go.
Mercedes C on Jul 16, 2018
it was on our book list at my son's school
Melissa G on Jul 16, 2018

We have recently switched to Saxon for our older children and I love the consistency of the program and the review of past concepts. I also love that it is something my older children can do pretty much on their own.
Tammy B on Apr 18, 2018
Have been using Saxon since kindergarten for my child. I love these homeschool editions as they have references back to the lesson the concept was introduced for every problem. The detailed solutions guide helps me walk through my student's work step by step.
Sarah K on Mar 28, 2018
The next one in the series my daughter needs.

What is included in the kit? I need an extra student text, test & worksheets book
Debra W on Aug 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: What's included is the student text book, tests and worksheets book, and the answer key book. You probably have to order an additional student text book and tests/worksheets book individually or buy two of this kit, but you'll have an extra answer key book.
Will the Saxon 7/6 4th ED worksheets and test book work with the Saxon 7/6 3rd ED Text book?
A shopper on Mar 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: After a fashion. The worksheets are fairly similar to the fact tests in the older edition. The tests are specific to the 4th editon and there might be a few changes in terms of lesson order but you should be able to use the newer edition tests with the older edtion text. Just beware that you may run into an occasional type of problem that hasn't been covered yet.
Is this 4th edition common core aligned?
A shopper on Aug 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: As far as I know, it is not aligned.
Does this edition align with common core?
A shopper on Aug 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Why do you want to align with common core? If the goal is to score well on standardized exams, this text will get you there, regardless of it's alignment. Very thorough, spiral in nature, and complete.
I'm looking at ordering your complete kits, but I need a different math level than what they come with. Is there a way to switch them out?
Amber B on Aug 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We are not able to make any changes/substitutions in the kits. However, the consultants are happy to work with you to develop a custom curriculum plan based on the kits. (There's no charge for this service.)
If I have 3 children in the same Saxon math level, would they each need their own text or just the text and worksheets?
A shopper on Feb 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The textbook has the lessons/explanations and questions/problems to solve. The worksheets book has the tests, timed/math facts daily tests, and any supplemental worksheets for selected lessons. The "teacher book" has just the solutions.
Balancing out frugality and ease of use, I would get 1 textbook, 1 teacher/solutions book and 3 worksheet books.
What year was this published? Does it have timed tests for every day and mental math?
User on Jan 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The copyright date is 2005. There are timed tests for every lesson. There is an investigation after every ten lessons, and there are tests every five lessons(starting at lesson 10). On investigation days, there is no timed test. But there is on test days. There is a box at the beginning of every lesson with mental math, and a special problem to solve. Then the student reads the lesson, then does the lesson practice problems. Next is the Mixed Practice which is 30 problems from all the lessons before including that days' work.
What year was this published?
A shopper on Jan 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I bought ours last summer June 2015 and the copyright date is 2005.
