About Five in a Row Vol. 4
Written for slightly older students, the format of Volume 4 is slightly different. This volume contains 15 lengthier unit studies that can be stretched to two weeks per book. Christian content is incorporated into Vol. 4 through related 'Christian Character and Bible Study Lessons.' FIAR Cookbook lessons are also provided for each unit, as are the laminatd story disks. So while this volume seems pricey compared to the rest, it's also more than twice the size of the other volumes and includes more additional content that you don't get packaged with Vol. 1-3. All volumes are spiral-bound with sturdy laminated covers.

I like it. It's stuctured yet eclectic enough for different approaches. My son REALLY likes it.

Amazing!
This volume of FIAR is packed full of lessons! There is enough in each unit to complete at least 2 weeks worth of study. It includes the Bible study, and recipes. I have been using it with my 3 boys (8,5,3) and they have all been having a blast!
There is so much here, this really is a treasure and a great value!

My 8-year-old is very visual and enjoys art and cooking, so this seemed like it would be a good fit for her and our time learning together.

I have loved Sonlight over the years but want something different for number five. I have heard great things about Five in a Row and am looking forward to the shift.

popular. Didn't end up using many of the activities suggested for the first couple books, as they were not appealing to my children. We'll see how the balance of the curriculum plays out.

This volume is much thicker and contains more information then the other books. In volumes one through three, you have to buy the Christian supplement, the recipes, and laminated story discs separately if you want them. This volume has all of those things in it. It also has two weeks per book. I hope this helps. We have not used it yet, but this is what I got from looking through it and looking online.

what is a story disk in volume 4?
A shopper
on Aug 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The story disks are small round pictures with a picture that represents the story. You cut them out and place them on your map or globe to have your student recall where the story takes place. The story disks in my Vol. 4 are laminated and pre-colored although my earlier volumes are plain paper and you have to color them in.

A story disk is a small laminated circle with a picture depicting the book you're studying. After reading the book, you find where the story takes place on a map and put your disk there. We use some teacher putty on the back of ours to make them easy to remove and use with the next book. Hope this helps.

They are small laminated circles with a picture to represent a story on each circle (one for each book). You can cut them out and pin them to a map to be reminded of all the places you "visit" while reading.

The story disks are the same as with the other volumes. In my volume they are at the back of the book colored and laminated.
