Teaches kids to be mathy
Miquon is not written in a drillandkill format. It's a "numbers are interesting. Let's play with them" format. Miquon is interesting for Mama too, as I never know what will come next. Miquon provides an amazing foundation for future math.

We love these "workbooks". They encourage kids to think mathematically and are easy to implement. They provide a different scope and sequence that is challenging but with the use of cuisinaire rods kids feel very successful meeting the challenge.

I'm choosing Miquon for the third time, as my third child is ready to begin the books. I'm very satisfied with this unique approach. Miquon helps to keep math interesting with its variety. I think it ersults in a more thorough learning because it presents the material in different ways. I do suggest supplementing with math fact races and/or flash cards.

We've used this series with two children and love the hands on lab exploration and practice exercises. The pages are simple, making it easier for my kids to focus on than busier, more colourful books we've used. I also like the way the strands are broken up and spread through the books, making it possible to work ahead in one area or do an activity with kids working in different books and then having them do a related practice activity in their own book.

My son wanted a more hands on approach to math. I personally love the program we have, which is Singapore math. but I bought this because some of the concepts are not sticking and this approach is hands on and will allow him to think outside of the box for math. So far we have zipped through level 1 and 2 and are on our way to level 3. This is an extremely challenging math program.

Are these pages printed front and back? Meaning if I was to cut off the binding and put them into a binder, will there be an addition page on one side and lets say a fractions page on the other? If I purchase the PDF off of curricick, will the pages be in color or black and white?

BEST ANSWER: They are front and back and are colored. The pages are perforated. I've not done the PDFs, but have used the material with all of my kids across the past 12 years, and am in the Orange Book with my youngest now. I strongly recommend staying with the physical workbooks in their printed form, because the exercises build on each other and because the previous workbooks have been useful as review/reference materials. The 6 books have taken about 34 years to complete, and sometimes, we have gone back from the last book to the first or second to review and rebuild lost/forgotten concepts. Miquon is the sole piece of curriculum that I've continued to use, as designed, with all of my kids.

Hi! Yes, the pages are printed back to back in the workbooks. The paper is soft, similar to coloring book pages. The set that I purchased recently went to my grandchildren, but from my memory of using them with my own children, there are several pages on each math topic in each of the workbooks. The next workbook will build on that topic where the last one left off. Miquon is not your typical math workbook, as it really works on developing mathematical concepts. However, it gave our older daughters a great start in math, and we'll be using it again with our younger children and grandchildren!

We have used Miquon Math and love it. Yes, the pages are printed back to back so you will have two different subjects back to back at times on the last lesson of one unit and the first of the other. I don't know about Curricick, but all the pages are in ONE color whether it's all blue or all red or all orange so printing in black and white shouldn't change any illustrations. It's like they wrote it all with one marker color per page.

Yes, the pages are printed front and back. A new section could happen on the left facing page or the right facing page. Each book has pages of different colors. The pages of one topic are all one color, and then the pages of the next topic are all of another color. This makes it easy for a child to know when they have finished a section. I don't know about the the PDF, whether it is also color or black and white.

They are printed on front AND back sides of the pages, and as you move through the book it will have several pages from a particular topic in a row (several addition pages, several subtraction pages, etc.). I have not purchased the PDF. In the books, the pages are printed in different colors (no pictures to speak of, but just using various colors of ink on various pages).

BEST ANSWER: Here are several to consider. ShillerMath (a Montesorri program) continues in a strong hands on/exploratory approach to math. Beast Academy couples strong concept development and instruction with graphic novel type of illustrations. Finally, Saxon Math is a solid math option with lots of review and repetition. Manipulative options are available for Saxon Math Intermediate 3, 4, and 5. There are placement tests available on our website search for "math placement tests".

I feel that Singapore Math is best along with the problem solving text that is grade specific. My son finds SM very advanced and easy to understand. The problem solving text is multi stepped and challenging. I've heard Saxon Math is good but I've not used it.

I find that the books are really versatile. typically, I see a first grader using level one, the orange book, and a second grader, level two, the red book. Sometimes a second grader is ready for the blue book. I find that once children are on a roll, they can sometimes move through all the books by the end of fourth grade. I also have found the yellow book to be great for third/fourth/fifth, and the purple for fifth, sixth. They were designed to be used only in grades one through three, with two books per year: orange, red in first, blue, green in second, yellow, purple in third. This works for advanced children beautifully, as well. Camille Hayward, Director, The Lake and Park School, Seattle, WA.

Reply

Reply

They are printed on front AND back sides of the pages, and as you move through the book it will have several pages from a particular topic in a row (several addition pages, several subtraction pages, etc.). I have not purchased the PDF. In the books, the pages are printed in different colors (no pictures to speak of, but just using various colors of ink on various pages).Miquon Orange Book Level 1Miquon Red Book Level 2Miquon Blue Book Level 3Miquon Green Book Level 4Miquon Yellow Book Level 5Miquon Purple Book Level 6Miquon Set of all 6 Student Workbooks Reply

Yes, they are printed doublesided in the bound book. I love this program, by the way. I'm unsure of the color of the PDF download version. Sorry I couldn't help there. Reply

The pages in the hardcopy workbooks are printed front and back, at least in the Orange book (the only one I've used thus far). Reply

I feel that Singapore Math is best along with the problem solving text that is grade specific. My son finds SM very advanced and easy to understand. The problem solving text is multi stepped and challenging. I've heard Saxon Math is good but I've not used it. Reply

Reply
