When Stephanie and Melissa finished Saxon Algebra 1 and started into Saxon Algebra 2 it didnt go well. Wisely, Linda decided to hold off on Algebra 2 and use Geometry by Harold Jacobs instead. After completing this course, they again started Saxon Algebra 2, follwed by Saxon Advanced Math, and did quite well. In fact, Stephanie scored a 30 on her ACT test in math, the highest math score that any of our children attained on the test. Why the turnaround? Was it just an extra year of maturity, or was it the way that Harold Jacobs presented the material that helped math to "gel" in their minds?
This latest edition of Jacobs Geometry preserves all the features that have made his text so popular with educators in the past. Like previous editions, this text stresses logic and deductive reasoning but does not take a "discovery" approach. This is an excellent geometry course with clear explanations of geometric concepts that include practice with proofs (informal and paragraph). The second chapter (six lessons) is appropriately devoted to logic in preparation for constructing proofs. Topics build incrementally and each practice set assumes knowledge gained in previous lessons in order to construct proofs. An appendix containing all presented theorems and postulates is most helpful. Also appreciated are the periodic algebra reviews, which keep students from forgetting these skills as they devote the year to geometry studies. This course is a thorough study of Euclidean geometry but concludes with a single chapter of four lessons that present nonEuclidean geometries. The teachers guide is solely an answer key providing answers to all exercises. The test book contains chapter tests, a midterm, a final, and test answers.

The title should read:
Answers to Exercises for Geometry Seeing, Doing, Understanding.
Although this is a solutions manual I have felt that some of the solutions are just answers and do not offer enough of an explanation.
I highly recommend purchasing the entire Callahan system available through Rainbow if the parent is not already great at geometry. That does all the teaching and they offer additional, personalized solutions if needed.
I hope this was helpful

5.0 / 5.02 Reviews5 Stars4 Stars3 Stars2 Stars1 Stars20000if only all textbooks were this good!My son and I are really enjoying this geometry textbook. It is easy to understand and logically organized into lessons that can easily be covered in a day and build upon each other in a sequental manner. It's possible to solve all problems, even the most difficult ones, based on the information presented in each lesson and the three sets of problems that follow each lesson allow students and/or their parents to choose the difficulty level best suited to the students' needs and abilities. In the first problem set, the problems gradually increase in difficulty to help students who are having trouble understanding the concepts presented while the other two sets challenge students who grasp the concepts easily and are likely to be bored by the "baby steps" of the first set. The humor and real world problems throughout the textbook really help make geometry fun and relevant. I was disappointed to see that this edition will no longer offered at Rainbow Resources as it offers excellent coverage of high school geometry for $30 less (when purchased with the test bank and solutions guide) than the newer edition. I would strongly recommend that one purchase the solutions guide with this textbook as the textbook only contains answers to a few problems (not even every other problem). We've found the test bank to be quite useful but one could probably substitute the chapter review questions (the answers to which can be found in the solutions guide) for the tests given in it if necessary. I prefer not to do so as the chapter review provides my son an opportunity to review the material covered before taking the chapter test. Was this review helpful? Yes (0) No (0)

I teach in a home school cooperative where I have used Jacobs Geometry both 2nd and 3rd edition for the past six years (I also use Jacobs Elementary Algebra) I LOVE the Jacobs approachit emphasizes understanding rather than just method Many opportunities exist for students to challenge themselves rather than just drill The book is neatly divided into lessons which are a days worth of work each (some effort has to be made to choose homework problems as its unreasonable to ask any student to do all the problems for each lesson) Was this review helpful? Geometry: Seeing, Doing and Understanding Teacher Third Edition (My Father's World printing)Ask Dr. Callahan Geometry DVD Set w/ Printed Teacher Guide, Tests, SyllabusYes. I too found it rather confusing to find, but here is the link. It's listed as Teacher's Guide, which is confusing since there is indeed a teacher's guide which is not sold here.

The first 2 have around 2030 each, and the third one is a puzzle question. We started the year doing one set together in class, and the second as a graded invidual assignment. Now we just do the one set as homework. Reply

The number of exercises per lesson varies. Most lessons have 2 or 3 sets of problems per lesson. Sets I & II are numbered consecutively and can contain 30 60 exercises. Many exercises are one word answers and are not true "problems" to solve. Reply

Each lesson is divided into 3 sets, which increase in difficulty. Set I and Set II have approximately 25 questions each. Set III has just a handful of questions, usually in the form of a creative logic or challenge problem. Reply

A lot. There are three "sets" for each lesson although the third section is meant for more advanced student. Between the first two sets your looking at around 50 problems. The tests are lengthy as well. Reply
