Necessary for sucess
Great info in this set- and it's necessary to watch, AS THE TEACHER, in order to be able to effectively teach the material to your students. At times it seemed to draw on and take longer than I would have liked, but there is value in it nonetheless.

This gem has been the best investment I have ever made! Prior to TWSS we had been working with some really 'cute' books to teach writing I can't even begin to describe the daily meltdowns from my very frustrated boys I couldn't understand how they 'just didn't get it' and I was even frustrated myself! For Pete's sake how can a book so full of cute graphics cause so much trouble?!? Since we embarked on our TWSS writing adventure my children haven't sprouted a bunch of halos and angel wings when it comes to writing but they are SO much more willing to work through their writing assignments! Their attitudes are now ones of empowerment They are now able to manipulate language to express what they were trying to write about They are writing far beyond what I expect for boys their ages (6 9 and 11)! Now all of that time wasted in meltdowns is more constructively spent - outside building ziplines from pulleys and playing capture the flag For me? I have the deep feelings of satisfaction knowing that I have equipped my children with something extremely powerful: the ability to put their own thoughts and ideas onto paper!

This curriculum is wonderful! For the first time ever I have actually heard my son say writing is kind of fun The instructions are so clear and concise that your child will no longer have to wonder what to write about or how to write it This program has been voted number 1 again and again for a good reason-it really works!

Institute for Excellence in Writing Seminar is well worth the investment of time and money If you suffer from feelings of inadequacy as a writing instructor like I did you need this program IEW demystifies the process of teaching writing It takes 10-12 hours of time to watch the DVDs The teacher however presents his material in an amusing way that is easy to watch Clear models are given for various types of writing Checklists help teachers and students know what is expected and whether goals have been met Grading writing is no longer a struggle and a headache because of the checklists For the first time in ten years of Homeschooling after struggling and dreading teaching writing I am excited to use what I have learned from this program While it does take an investment of time and is not the cheapest program it will pay back your efforts exponentially for years to come

Institute for Excellence in Writing has opened my eyes! Having a gifted homeschooler has always been a challenge to me Probably the most challenging was writing I just could not get the writing out of him that he was capable of In fact I had my son watch and interact with the teacher's portion of the CD; and his next assignment was amazing He has utilized what he learned and now his writing is better than I ever expected My son is now an awesome writer We will continue to use the program and view the lectures through out his home schooling In addition my youngest son is enjoying learning how to use the key word outline And a 9 year old with an imagination can write some pretty funny stories with the aide of a key word outline In my seven years of homeschooling this is the best program for teaching writing to any grade level that I've seen

I was at a conference yesterday and had a chance to look through this material. I think it will be just what my struggling writer needs to help him feel comfortable with writing assignments.

Detailed description of course?
A shopper on Nov 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can find a detailed description at this link under the Category Description heading. You will need to click the "show more" button. That description includes this information:

The main course is a 12-hour teaching seminar with an accompanying seminar and practicum workbook (syllabus), for the TEACHER (who is the student in this instance). Also included is a set of four student demonstrations an introduction writing workshop for each of four grade groupings (1-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12). The seminar features Andrew Pudewa, homeschooling father of seven, giving the presentation that he normally shares in seminars around the country. He feels that if teachers (a.k.a. parents) possess proper skills for writing, they will be able to pass along these skills to their students. The seminar workbook provides notes from the seminar as well as lots of samples and examples. .

The writing seminar covers two basic components of composition not surprisingly, structure and style and is divided into nine units: Note Taking and Outlines, Summarizing from Notes, Summarizing Narrative Stories, Summarizing a Reference, Writing from Pictures, Library Research Reports, Creative Writing, Essay Writing, and Critiques. These may be used in the order presented, or you may use the unit that most suits your needs at the time. As you can tell from these units, structure is both the type of writing and the method of organizing the writing.
What, specifically, is different between the 1st and 2nd editions of this product?
User on Jul 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is no difference in the core content - the nine writing units that make up the IEW writing program. The videos are new - updated in appearance and quality - and the whole presentation and materials were tweaked based on the many years of experience in presenting and using this information.
Does this product include the 3 student writing intensives or would those be ordered separately?
A shopper on Aug 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This set includes three short (1 hr) introductory workshops. The same material (note making and writing from notes) is presented for each of the three grade ranges. Similar content is included in the Student Writing Intensive video courses but the SWI courses are much broader and cover more material. Normally, you would order the SWI workshop(s) in addition to the TWSS.
What is included in this set? Is it A and B?
Tonya M on Aug 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This is the basic set that prepares you to teach any level - A,B, or C. It is the foundation from which you can use any of the TWSS materials. This is not the student writing intensive in which Andrew Pudwa himself teaches the lessons at specific levels. This particular set is all you need to teach your kids. The Student Writing Intensives are level specific - A, B, or C - and if you want to use them, you should first work through this TWSS basic set.

I am only part way through the course, but it is excellent.
