very pleased
My 4 year old is not overwhelmed by the amount of work each day so be is able to do his best without getting frustrated or tired. Also, it is very easy to follow and teach for me.

Sweet intro to handwriting
This is a very gentle and sweet introduction to handwriting. Each letter is given a page of practice on nice, wide lines. The back has a drawing of an animal that begins with that letter for the child to color. I would not use any other program for young children just learning to write.

Short lessons are a plus.
My Kindergartner loves to do this class first thing in the morning all on his own. The lessons are short enough to not become tiresome. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because the handwriting lines provided are giant. I do wish the lines were more practical in size. My boy loves this book and is breezing through it.

We are using this program for the first time this year We are currently doing the K (kindergarten) and the Manu B (2nd grade)books I love that the teacher's guide covers all levels of the course I decided to purchase ARFH because of the way God and scripture are both incorporated into the lessons We love the colorful pages and the blank scripture sheets in the back of the Manu A & B books My daughter enjoys getting to choose which sheet she will use to write her weekly Bible verse My kindergartner loves the coloring page that accompanies each lesson along with the lesson about that particular subject She does struggle a bit with the "tree house" method of learning to write letters She has a very short attention span and I think it's a bit much for her to comprehend I think the method used in Handwriting Without Tears may be a better fit for her Overall I would recommend this product

LOVE this Have been using this year for my K-4 son Boys typically develop fine motor skills (necessary) for good handwriting later than girls and one thing that I really like with this curriculum is the sizing It was about 1 1/2 times larger than the leading textbook company's K4 book we tried first There is a picture to color on the back of the pages and that provided a good incentive for my son to do the workpage! The Teacher's Edition covers all the grades K-6 so it's a one time purchase I would recommend it for K level students as there is a lot of helpful handwriting information as well as additional information about the pictures - almost makes it a cross-curriculum resource I would also recommend the Student Desk Card for each student to reference

A Reason for Handwriting K provides wonderful exercises for pre-writing by practicing circles in the correct direction before you get to writing actual letters The teacher guide is very helpful giving good hints for both teaching and supervising the mechanics of handwriting things like good posture and paper positioning Also one teacher's edition covers all levels of the program My only criticism of this program is that there is no practice of writing numbers However if the math program you use covers this like Saxon does then you won't miss it

I am using A Reason for Handwriting K with my 4 year old daughter It is working pretty well for us It is a traditional "ball and stick" type of handwriting program The workbook starts off with a short introduction to basic pencil strokes - circles diagonal lines etc It then introduces the beginning writer to proper way to write the different letters of the alphabet both upper and lower-case It uses the concept of a treehouse to teach children how big or little to make the letter (ie a capital "D" touches the roof of the treehouse while a lower-case "a" does not) Unlike the other workbooks in this series this one does not have the children copying scriptures Instruction is limited to writing the letters One of the best features of this workbook are the coloring pages As each letter is introduced there is a corresponding picture of an animal or object that begins with that letter of the alphabet My daughter enjoys coloring the pictures and it is good motivation for her to try her best I do recommend this book We have found it pretty easy to use although probably helps that my daughter has about a year of previous handwriting practice If your child gets easily frustrated you might want to look into the Handwriting Without Tears series instead This one is working for us and I like the emphasis on scripture that is found in the more advanced workbooks

I am so excited about this set of handwriting workbooks! So far we have only used kindergarten (K) My daughter learned a lot from them this year from the correct formation of letters to letter sounds to various kinds of animals We were even able to use this as a jumping off point to study various kinds of animals After the P page which has a picture of a penguin on the back we dove into a study of penguins looking on the internet for what type of food they eat checking out books from the library and finally taking a trip to the Zoo The treehouse graphic was very helpful too I can't wait to start the first grade book my plan is to use the scripture verses as our memory verse as well

A Reason for Handwriting series is a great way for children to practice their handwriting It works wonderfully for various learning styles using tactile (writing practice and art) audio (listening to the lessons which are very interesting) and visual (art) The books are easy to use I also like how God is incorporated into the lessons and scripture in the various books My older kids really enjoyed the creative outlet while learning These products are very worth the cost For anyone wanting to teach manuscript style writing I do not think there is a better workbook out there The only negative (in my opionion) is that it teaches manuscript and I decided to go with Getty-Dubay (italic) Even so I am going to use it with my other children and have them practice italic writing on their sheets Although I am teaching my children a different style of handwriting I prefer the well done lessons in A Reason for HandwritingThe Level K Student workbook provides not only instruction in how to write the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make (phonics) but also incorporates little lessons to reinforce the letter sounds and adds an "art project" to go along with each letter Ex The "G" page has a Giraffe on it The student traces the word "Giraffe" colors the giraffe and draws a tall tree with delicious leaves for the giraffe to nibble The book also suggests that you can cut out leaves from green paper or find real leaves and glue them to your tree It breaks the lessons up with one for the capital G and one for the loer case g - "g's" lesson is on geese and they color a goose according to the kind of goose they want to make; then draw a nest with eggs in the nest to match the kind of goose they colored This is a great reinforcing supplement to any early learning phonics program I used it with the Get Ready Get Set Go for the Code series After the initial review of how the lessons work guidance on critiquing work and review of additional creative handwriting practice ideas (1 hour max) it takes 60 seconds to review the how-to's of writing a particular letter and about another two to ten minutes (depending on how interactive the child is) to read the lesson for the page they are about to work on I loved the little lessons that come with each letter to teach them something new and different as well as the various ways they suggest to color/decorate the pages

This is a great tool for homeschool moms to teach handwriting. The daily lessons are easily torn out. It teaches letter sounds and letter formation in a fun way with an animal to color that goes along with each letter. I love the other levels of this curriculum as well because each day the students work toward writing verses from the Bible. The end product on day 5 is a beautiful page that the child colors with a verse neatly written on it.

All my kids have used this program-just enough practice. Although my kids printing is ok...their cursive is beautiful-go figure.

I needed a little extra practice for my son with his penmanship. I like how it is a 5 day plan, working a little at a time, practicing letters and words leading to writing a bible verse to give to someone at the end! I like the paper they provide for the verses that they can color too!

I have used this series of handwriting books over the last 11 years for all of my children. Each lesson is nicely laid out and reinforce scripture they are learning. I love these books just as much now, as my youngest starts kindergarten, as when my oldest child started! I highly recommend the Reason for Handwriting series.

I have looked far and wide for a handwriting program that teaches the basics without any fluff and that does not lean to heavily on cursive. I think cursive has its place but I want my kids to learn handwriting first.

I have heard great things about this handwriting curriculum and wanted to try it!

I LOVE A Reason for Handwriting. My 8 year old just started C, and I'd had my 5 (just turned 6) year old working on the pages left in her old A book (we went to T halfway through). While he's ok with it, I think it's a tad above where he needs to be. I'm purchasing Learning Language Arts Through Literature (another LOVE) Blue for him, but based on my daughter's Yellow book, I don't feel their handwriting portion is enough for my children.
Vickie S on Feb 6, 2017
My first daughter loved the break of a color page during school so I decided to do it for my next child as well.

excellent for my kids, it is clear and not too cluttered, but looks pleasant and enjoyable, nice balance. The K is only letters with a coloring page, no Scripture. My 3 year old will be starting on this in conjunction with All About Reading Pre-Reading work.

How many lessons are in this book?
A shopper on Mar 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The book has 52 lessons, each one page front and back. The front page is practice printing the letter, the back has a word to trace and picture to color, i.e. lesson 34 is Ff, the back has the word fish to trace and a picture of a fish to color. Throughout the book there are many review pages in addition to the regular lesson pages.
