Description

Begin your study of family history using this introduction to genealogy designed especially for children. Author gives useful background information and suggestions for conducting research. The bulk of this book is a workbook, though, designed to be used by children (but helpful to adults beginning a genealogy pursuit as well). Starting with the child, the family tree is built through generations. More than just diagrammatic, there are pages to fill with interesting information learned through their research into the family tree itself. Examples are pages titled "Words I Have Learned in My Ancestors' Native Languages," "Family Stories" and "Ethnic Foods I Eat." Toward the end of the book, the author supplies you with a reproducible page for a notebook filing system to continue your studies, introduces heraldry, displays the use of standard pedigree charts, suggests a log for tracking correspondence, and suggests where to go for help or to extend your study farther into the past. Some related activities are also suggested and the final page shows the author's own "finished" family tree. A genealogical primer to get even the youngest historian started on the path to the past.
