Description

Teaching your children about God's plan for sex and male/female relationships is part of what it means to bring up a child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Dennis and Barbara Rainey (parents of six) from FamilyLife Ministries provide "a plan" for guiding your teens: a getaway weekend. This plan comes with instructions and guidelines, using presentations from excellent speakers who will teach these difficult concepts in interesting, engaging ways, using solid Biblical values.

This program encourages and empowers parents and preteens to discuss such difficult topics as intimacy, sexual behavior, and personal feelings. Parents are given the tools to challenge their sons and daughters, building a mentoring relationship for future discussions as they continue into adulthood. Designed to initiate a close parent/child relationship, topics are handled biblically, carefully, and tastefully. Some topics are left as options for the parent. Take a weekend getaway (or do this over 4-5 weeks during special times together). One child and a parent (boys with fathers; girls with mothers) will do an activity of the student's choice. They spend time listening to the prerecorded talks, conversing, and working through study material together. It's a wonderful way to prepare for the upcoming changes the student will experience.

This 5th edition (2022) Getaway Kit provides the weekend's framework: a digital tour guide for the parent, digital download of 5 audio sessions (mp3) geared to male or female students, and a “travel journal" for the preteen including 25 follow-up devotions. Content will cover body changes, selecting friends, defining and maintaining sexual purity, media/screens and pornography, and more. In discussion with parents, students will determine their physical intimacy guidelines, make decisions on dating, and more.

The five sessions are:

  • Beginning the Journey (Challenges, Traps and Choices)
  • Running with the Herd (Friendships and Peer Pressure)
  • Ready for an Upgrade? (Changes in Him, Changes in Her)
  • Destination: LePure (Setting Boundaries)
  • Crossing the Date Line (Seeing Dating Differently)

Your son or daughter will use the engaging Travel Journal to process the material learned and discussed during the weekend's experiences. The full-color pages provide a place to take notes, jot down thoughts, and answer questions. Guidelines for godly Christian living are provided. In the back of the Journal are 25 follow-up devotions (along with an additional 22 lined journal pages) that help keep the heart and mind pursuing purity, strengthening the young adult's biblical mindset, and helping them be ready in advance. This is a keepsake type book with reinforced soft cover, full-color graphics, and an attached ribbon bookmark. Scriptures used are from ESV, NASB, NIV, NKJV, and KJV. Additional journals without digital features are available from the publisher. 139 pgs.

The Tour Guide (parent guide) is now only available via digital download through the kit (code included; account setup required). This tool helps plan the getaway, with a weekend itinerary and suggested schedule. Also included are preparation checklists and a supply list, guidelines for writing a note to your son/daughter, and specific suggestions for praying for your teen. With the download code, you will access all the weekend sessions' audio. These sessions feature scripture, object lessons, humorous features, real-life stories from teens and adults, and lots of teaching from parents and experts that have "been there, done that." This kit gives you a plan; the certainty of godly, biblical content; and the promise of enjoyable memories. - Ruth

Publisher's Description of Passport 2 Purity Getaway Kit (5th Edition)

A life-changing getaway with your preteen

Your child begins the journey into adolescence in a world of sexting, bullying, online stalking and moral defiance. Innocence is under attack, and you cannot win the battle with a single awkward talk or a strict set of rules. The primary defense for your child is a strong relationship with you and with God. FamilyLife has developed Passport2Purity® to assist you in building heart-to-heart communication with your preteen while laying a foundation of purity that will prepare them for the turbulent years ahead. Through the shared listening experience, object lessons and guided conversations of a Passport2Purity weekend getaway, you can set your son or daughter on a journey of moral integrity—and strengthen the bond between you.

Passport2Purity® is designed to be used by a mother and daughter or a father and son when the child is a preteen. It is suggested that the materials be completed over a weekend away from home, as the child may be more open to discussing the topics away from his or her normal environment. If this isn't possible, the material can be completed over a period of four or five weeks.
