straight forward
My 3rd grader enjoys the logics in this book - good variety and simple without being "easy."

Attractive illustrations and easy-to-follow page layouts challenging exercises and just the right number of lessons (54) per book make this an enjoyable and inexpensive logic curriculum for the upper elementary student at 1 book or maybe 1 1/2 books per year Each book has 2 pages of comments geared at the instructor with simple tips on presenting the specific logical thinking skills Logic Countdown can be breezed through with little parental involvement and gives a good foundation for the types of reasoning skills found in the next two books Logic Liftoff and Orbiting with Logic really give the child a strong mental workout and need about 15-30 minutes of parental explanation at the beginning of each of the 7 categories of thinking skills (analogies syllogisms deduction sequences inferences logical reasoning & logical notation) Analogies will stretch a child's vocabulary (eg demitasse taciturn jambalaya) in an enjoyable way but will most likely require access to a dictionary The Deductions sections may be difficult for the easily frustrated child Each lesson took my 10 yo child between 5-30 minutes (inclusive of looking up words in the dictionary) My only criticism of these books is that the author could have addressed a page or two at the beginning of each section to the student listing possible strategies for solving the problems

Just another fun way to get my kids to start thinking logically.

I chose Logic Countdown because it appears to be a good blend of logic and analytical skill building for this younger age group. There were a lot of good logic books for older students, but few for middle elementary students that didn't seem too difficult. This appears to be the right level of "achieveable challenge."
