Description

Combining detailed penmanship review and practice with creative writing instruction and prompts, this worktext provides practice space and helpful, focused activities. Designed to be used through the first 85 lessons of the 6th grade year (daily penmanship practice continues through the year, though), the first section provides detailed penmanship worksheets. Warm-ups, tracing, and copywork have an additional focus: spacing, slant, shape, alignment, proportion, connections, etc. Seventeen tests complete this section, each of which provides a copywork passage. The Creative Writing section makes up the remaining worksheets. These feel more like workshops with “mind stretchers" that encourage student skills: observing details, and awareness of senses. Applications to various writing prompts and journal entries are daily assignments. Exercises culminate with an exploration of various types of poetry writing. Answers to exercises (when applicable) are in the back. 89 pgs, pb.
