Hi! My name is Deanne Crawford.
I love homeschooling and am very grateful to have found a "post-homeschool" career that expands on that passion. Married to Manuel since 1989, we chose to homeschool beginning in 1997 when our daughter, Amanda, was in first grade. Amanda graduated from our homeschool in 2009, obtained her BSN-RN in 2013, married her best friend, Ryan, in 2014 and is a Critical Care Registered Nurse. Our son, Jackson, graduated from our homeschool in 2013, and is pursuing web and graphic design courses at our community college. We have been eclectic in our approach to homeschooling; however, it is best summed up with "a modified Charlotte Mason, delight-directed approach" with a little bit of Unit Study thrown in! My homeschool philosophy has simply been to give my children a love for learning and teach them how to learn.
During our homeschool journey, our family volunteered extensively with our local homeschool support group in the roles of convention co-chairs; speaker coordinator; convention crew; speaker at "Getting Started" meetings, book table staff and teacher of a Constitution Class. Homeschooling has been a tremendous blessing to my family, and although it is not the easiest thing I have ever done, it has definitely been my greatest accomplishment. It is my desire to encourage and equip you for your own homeschool journey whether you are entering your first year or your fifth year.
I received my diploma in Nursing (RN) from a local hospital based Nursing program in 1985 and continued to practice nursing until 2000 when our homeschool became more active and required more of my focus. Although no longer actively practicing, I have a special interest in health-related subjects, psychology and science. History has also become a beloved interest, as I became familiar with "living books" and utilized them in our own homeschool.
I look forward to "talking" with you and answering any questions you may have regarding homeschooling and curricula. I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org, by phone at 888-841-3456, or you may even see me at a homeschool convention in your area, as I travel with the crew to present workshops and answer homeschool questions.
In this video, Deanne will take you through a brief history of math education, help you understand the differences between many popular elementary math programs, and provide you with a multitude of informational teaching activity ideas for working with your youngest students.
