Up-to-Speed Math Story Problems

Even children with good computational skills may have trouble solving story problems. Some need help with learning to read more carefully. Others need help in deciding what tactic to use in solving a problem. Still others need help in following through -- answering the question that was asked. This series helps with these issues and more. Part I of each book concentrates on the processes and skills needed to solve word problems with several lessons focusing on gathering information, planning, calculating, and checking. Thereafter, each unit in Part II begins with a Skill Tune-up lesson then four to five lessons which apply different problem-solving strategies. Each lesson is a short two-page spread and contains complete instructions, examples, and exercises. Two-color pages, with examples and instructions in blue, enhance the text’s readability. Answers to exercises are in a separate key.
