Ring of Fire Book & Kits Level 2 (Gr. 6-12)
If you've used Ring of Fire's Level 1 kits or you've read the description above and found it appealing but would like to use the kits with older kids, here you go. Level II kits are very similar in format to the Level I kits, but contain more lessons and more advanced text. Each textbook contains 16 lessons, each with an accompanying quiz and hands-on activity. Like the Level I kits, textbooks are on CD, with full-color textbook pages in .pdf format. CDs are PC and Mac compatible, and copies can be printed for multiple students. Kits also include a set of rocks, a rock case, and a keychain loupe to examine them close-up. Topics covered in the Rock Cycle Kit are: using color to identify igneous rocks, pyroclastic rocks, volcanic features, sedimentary rocks, clastic rocks, organic rocks, metamorphic rocks, foliated rocks and more.
Earth Science lessons include the earth, plate tectonics, igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, minerals, volcanoes, earthquakes, oceans, marine habitats, and the atmosphere. In the Volcanoes kit, kids will learn about types of volcanoes, types of eruptions, calderas, pyroclastic flows, earthquakes and volcanoes, the Ring of Fire, Mt. Saint Helens, submarine volcanoes, Hawaiian volcanoes, and how volcanoes are monitored. Although written from a secular viewpoint, the sample texts I have seen seem more concerned with present-day science than evolutionary origins.
