Biggest! Littlest!

Creepy crawlies abound, add sharks to the mix and you have a recipe for a science unit kids will love! I liked learning the reasons for each species being their size. Do you know why some sharks are enormous while others are tiny? Extreme close up photography shows us in detail just how that python eats a gazelle and how paper wasps develop from pupa to adult. World maps in the back show where each species in the book can be found. Younger kids will love the pictures, but I think the real value may be for the 3rd and 4th graders studying science. There is a lot of really interesting information here written in language kids will understand. There is a glossary in the back of each with new words. These would make a great spelling list. The biological information was really fun to read. The snake book does show a lot of close-ups of prey being eaten. I was cringing a bit looking at that one, but I kept reading. I think kids will find these books fascinating. 30 pgs, pb. ~ Sara
