Description

Crucial high school topics taught from a conservative Christian approach sets this course apart from other health curriculum. Beginning with an overview of growth and development from conception through adolescence, students gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for human anatomy and physiology. Good nutrition, exercise, hygiene, personal and environmental safety, first aid/emergency preparedness, and disease prevention are taught through a Biblical lens. OTC and prescription drugs, as well as legal and illegal drugs are discussed. Effects of drug, alcohol and tobacco use on the human body are taught and students are given Biblical principles to prevent health risks. Students also learn how to maintain mental and emotional health in their walk with the Lord. Special features abound including a look at numerous medical careers, biblical discernment articles addressing suicide, euthanasia, abortion, organ donation and substance abuse, personal checkups assessing current health and wellness, and an atlas of human anatomy.

Abundantly illustrated, the student text includes the student readings, personal checkup questions, application questions, section review questions and end of chapter questions. Detailed glossary, index and an index of Scripture references are included. The teacher edition includes the complete student text in the front with the teacher resources in the back. Scope and sequence, teaching strategies and techniques are included, along with daily lesson plans and answers to questions in the textbook. If you prefer to not utilize the teacher edition, a text answer key with answers to the section and chapter questions is available. Additional resources include the quiz and test book and the quiz and test book answer key. Sixteen quizzes, four-unit tests, and a 9- week and final exam are included. Not reproducible. Answers are found in the corresponding quiz and test book answer key, which also includes suggestions for testing, grading tips and suggested answers to the essay questions.

For your convenience, a Health Homeschool Student Kit and Parent Kit are available. The student kit includes the student textbook and quiz and test book. The parent kit includes the teacher edition and quiz and test key. Abeka includes this is in their complete grade 9 package, although it may be taken at any point in the upper middle school through high school level, depending on the maturity of the student.
