Description

Ready, Set, GO! This new devotional introduces young people to the adventure of a lifetime-the adventure of knowing and walking with God. Each week presents an illustrated story from the Old or New Testament, a memory verse, devotional thoughts ("X-Ray Vision"), an assigned mission that applies the devotional teaching, debriefing questions to inspire Biblical living, and a lessons review. There are also occasional suggested activities to share with family or creative, big picture pages with activity ideas to drive home the main point of the week.

Let me share the distinctive nuances of this devotional. Week 35 begins with a reading of the Temptation of Christ in the Desert (based on Luke 4:1-13, Matthew 4:1-11 and John 1:35-51) from the graphically illustrated Action Bible. Following is the key memory verse Matthew 4:4 (NLT), and then X-Ray Vision shares the classic "I am your father" scene from the Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back, comparing this to the real life temptation of Jesus by Satan. The follow up thoughts share with young people that they can overcome temptation in the same way Jesus overcame temptation. Three mission choices are presented that focus on developing tools to overcome temptation. Debrief questions encourage them to consider whether it was easy for Jesus to face Satan's temptations, as well as how they usually try to defeat temptation and how many Bible verses do they know. Mission Accomplished journaling focuses on what they learned and what they want to remember. There is also a share the adventure activity to ask mom, dad, a sibling or friend to check up on them and help them beat an especially tough temptation. This would make an excellent devotional for the adventuring loving girls or boys in your family. References from various Bible translations. 334 pgs, sc. ~Deanne
