Description

Subtitled "The Whole Hilarious Story of the American Revolution," you've never read an account of the American Revolutionary War quite like this one. The author, Steve Sheinkin, says that he used to write textbooks, and he found so many interesting tidbits and cool stories during his research that he couldn't use in textbooks, so he vowed to write his own books and include all those gems. Factual, yet very entertaining and readable, the book starts with the steps needed to start a revolution and discusses all the events that transpired to trigger the war for independence. I almost couldn't put it down as I was looking it over to write my description. From the bad choices made by King George and the Shot Heard 'Round the World, to the victory of the Americans, this book takes readers step-by-step through the whole war, the main characters, the decisions made, and much more. The text is so engaging and enjoyable that you won't even feel like you are learning, and what's more, you will be able to retain it much better than you could if you studied out of some dry textbook. I highly recommend this resource to supplement your studies! The book also includes a "What Ever Happened to" section that discusses the post-war lives of the famous men and women in the book, source notes, quotation notes and an index. Pb, 195 pgs. ~ Megan

Publisher's Description of King George: What Was His Problem?

KING GEORGE NEVER DID UNDERSTAND AMERICANS

"Entire books have been written about the causes of the American Revolution. This isn't one of them." What it is, instead, is utterly interesting, antedotes (John Hancock fixates on salmon), from the inside out (at the Battle of Eutaw Springs, hundreds of soldiers plunged into battle "naked as they were born") close-up narrative filled with little-known details, lots of quotes that capture the spirit and voices of the principals ("If need be, I will raise one thousand men, subsist them at my own expense, and march myself at their head for the relief of Boston" -- George Washington), and action, It's the story of the birth of our nation, complete with soldiers, spies, salmon sandwiches, and real facts you can't help but want to tell to everyone you know.

King George: What Was His Problem? is a 2009 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.
