Winner of two Noble prizes, one in Physics with her husband, and one in Chemistry for her solo discoveries, Marie Curie is best known for her work with radium and polonium. One of her greatest contributions to science was the invention of “Little Curies’ which were used during World War I to take mobile x rays of injured soldiers on the battlefield. Learn more about this fascinating scientist and the scientific discoveries which eventually took her life through various hands-on activities. Students will construct a radium atom, scan the skeletal system to discover the answers to human body trivia questions, create a mock x-ray of your hand, and create glow in the dark slime. Includes the supplies to create an atom (Styrofoam ball and gems (clear, green and blue), radium display board, skeletal system with trivia board and scanner, bones sheet, white paint, paint brush, white glue, glycerin, activator for slime, stir stick, small measuring cup, glow in the dark powder, UV light, and 2 lithium coin cell batteries. Please note, parental supervision is recommended. Kit includes components that may be harmful if swallowed.
