I love Horizon Math
This is our third year using Horizon Math. My kindergartner is currently working on the second book. The books are great in that although the move to new concepts quickly they provide practice with previously learned concepts by spiraling back. The students are able to remember much more that way because they are constantly practicing yet it keeps them moving forward with their math. I really like the set up of the book and colorful pages. The kindergarten books have an appropriate about of problems on each page, not overwhelming. We are very satisfied with our students Math education using Horizon.

I have used Horizons math with my son and daughter, so will start with my youngest. I like the spiral approach and the kids like the colorful pictures and in the later grades there are lots of games to make the review more fun.

This program is a solid math program that teaches the concept and moves forward. It is a fast-paced series, especially at the K level, and that is what the oldest grandchild needs at this point.

It has been a good match for our son who likes worksheets and doing school like his older brothers.

My preschool son loves to do his Math while his sister is doing hers. I let him do as much as he wants and he is almost finished with the first workbook so we are moving on to the second one.

How often is God/the Bible/religious content mentioned in this? I have heard wonderful things about Horizons but would like to keep religion out of our math lessons. Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: I have used Horizons 1, 2, 3, and 4 and I do not recall ever seeing God, the Bible, or religious content mentioned. I really, really like the Horizons math curriculum! They do a looping type of thing where they continuously review previous work so the student doesn't lose skills they previously gained, while simultaneously moving the students forward through math concepts pretty quickly. I like the way they introduce concepts. For instance, through second and early third grade, the students do a lot of skip counting, so by the time they get to multiplication, it's second nature! For what it's worth, I really like Horizons' other curriculum as well (spelling, phonics and reading, and penmanship), but those do have some religious content (i.e., Jesus as a spelling word, a verse to write in penmanship, etc.) and may not work if you're trying to avoid it.
