A nice curriculum for early learners to practice coloring, cutting and pasting, and following directions. Each of the workbooks has 64 pages. Adventures with Books teaches the eight basic colors, simple shapes, and the meanings of a few familiar words. Bible Pictures to Color is basically a coloring book with 60 pictures to color (corresponding to the 60 stories in Bible Stories to Read). A few of them are color-by-number. Bible Stories to Read is the storybook for Bible Pictures to Color, intended to be read by the parent prior to coloring each story. Several questions and answers and a short Bible memory selection are provided for each story. Counting with Numbers teaches the numbers 1-10; the meaning of the number, its numeral form, and how to write it. It also teaches number sequence and other simple number relationships (more than, less than, first, last). Do It Carefully helps children detect differences in shapes, letters, and simple words. It also provides instruction on writing his name, and a few initial consonant letter sounds. Everywhere We Go reviews the eight colors, shapes and numbers 1-10, then practices writing letters and more initial consonant sounds. Finding the Answers is a basic thinking skills book working on rhyming, identifying sequence, understanding sentence meanings, and making comparisons and associations.

We love these books, and the price can't be beat. They have a seriousness about them, a high "eat-your-vegetables" standard. The line drawings (no color) are fun but simple, mostly animals, food, a few simple farmhouse scenes. I'd like to show you what is written to parents in the back of these books. "...this series of workbooks is prepared to help you as parents give constructive guidance to your child in the last year prior to his entering first grade. ...While we want children to enjoy using these books, this work is not intended to help children feel overconfident in their abilities. [I like that.] The highest aim for children is to show an excellent, obedient, cooperative spirit. ...Mother should be able to go on sewing, cooking, and so forth while overseeing the child working nearby." The publishers might consider me precocious to use them with a four-year-old, but we are honoring their firm expectations. She has surprised me by how carefully she can color! Flipping through her completed pages makes her - and me - proud of the neat work. We started with the 'A'dventures book, one page a day, then onto the 'C'ounting book, etc. We do one Bible Story each Monday from the 'B'ible books, which have 60 stories: she colors while I read aloud and ask her questions. Each page of the workbooks has a Discussion prompt and clear Directions for the activities on that page. ...If you like the old-fashioned simplicity of these, you would also like the Preschool Workbook set (About Three, etc.) by Study Time Publishers.

I can't give enough praise about this series. It is one of the best bargains we have seen since we began homecschooling 5 years ago. This year we are using it for the fourth time (with our fourth child---age 3). Our children have loved using these workbooks. (In fact, I've often seen them reminiscing about a particular page as they watch their younger sibling!) It has a strong Bible content and the perfect balance between learning (numbers, letters, shapes, colors), handwriting, and the small motor skills of cutting and pasting. There are even a few stories and songs along the way. If you can, I recommend purchasing extra "B" workbooks (Bible Stories to Color) for other primary school-aged children in your home. We purchased the coloring books for all of ours and as a morning devotional time the kids colored while I read the corresponding story from the "Bible Stories to Read" Teacher book. There is no teacher prep for this series and you could easily do as much or as little as you would like each day.

This was the very first thing we used when we officially started homeschooling. It was fun and easy and gave me as the mom/teacher the confidence I needed to move on to other more complicated things later. Right after we finished these books, which was all review of basic things for my 5 year old, we moved on to the phonics curriculum that comes after this. However I am thinking about using these for my 3 yr old for preschool as they are perfect for her level. No matter what, its is an excellent bargain. Lots of cutting and coloring and matching and tracing. And wonderful little Bible lessons and memory verses.

My daughter loved all of these workbooks. They are very thorough in PK skills and she transferred to advanced K work very easily. What was nice was the very basic pictures, all black and white. My daughter loved to color the animals and everything after her lesson as a reward! I highly recommend these!
