Revised and updated by Geography Matters, Geography Through Art combines Sharon Jeffus' artistic vision with author Jamie Aramini's writing talents. While retaining the "heart" of Teaching Geography Through Art, the revision features a snazzier, easier-to-use layout, crisper type and graphics, and many additional "extras". Instructions at the beginning of the book explain the icons and new features found throughout the book, offer instructions on keeping a geography notebook, and include art tips, techniques, teaching tips and a list of basic art materials you'll use most frequently. The book is divided by continent, with a short "world" section at the very beginning. A map, continent summary and list of facts begins each chapter, detailing basic geographical information for the continent. Then, a variety of art information and projects are provided for several major countries in the continent. As Sharon Jeffus believes in hands-on learning, so a wide variety of projects relating to that continent using many different art media are suggested. Subject matter for each continent includes architecture, animals, works of art, and cultural artifacts. With each project, you'll be learning fascinating information about the culture, and enjoy photographs, drawings, and details about artistic techniques. The instructions for each project are broken down step by step, and each project also includes a list of materials needed. Also helpful are the icons throughout the book which denote the difficulty level of projects, indicate if there is a related website available for the project (links can be found on Geography Matters' website), or denote that recipes for that country can be found in Eat Your Way Around the World, if you'd like to extend your studies to the kitchen. Additionally, you may enjoy the "Quicksketches" where students can practice their sketching on a culturally-relevant subject, the profiles of famous artists or works of art, and the "Culture Connection" notes, which draw comparisons between different cultures. If you like an artistic approach to geography, or a cultural approach to art, this book's for you!

Teaching Geography Through Art is one of the best resources I have used in my seven years homeschooling. This year it is the core of my geography and art curriculums for my 4th, 6th, and 10th grade children. What a time saver! The spiral bound 139 page book is printed in black and white, making photocopying easy and economical, and the dozens of art lessons are easily adaptable to all skill levels. Even my 11-year-old son, who usually cringes at art projects, is enjoying this book. The only additional materials we are using are an atlas, an almanac, and easily obtainable art supplies. If you're looking for a way to make geography more exciting, this book fills that need. In fact, I plan on using another book in the series, Teaching American History Through Art, next year!

While perusing the Internet to try to find a way to make geography a bit more fun for ALL our children (two 4th graders, an 8th and a 9th grader), I stumbled upon "Geography Through Art: International Art Projects for Kids" and thought I'd give it a try. My children have always been creative and all love to draw and design things. We soon discovered this book is the perfect fit for us. I can use the book to teach all the children and learn many artistic terms while learning geography. Of course, all the easy-to-do projects make for a plus in that their creative juices never tire of flowing and they have new challenges (and all the artwork to display!) I highly recommend this resource and especially find it helpful for teaching multiple children. I cannot wait to try another book in this series and neither can my children!

What a great resource for teaching geography across the curriculum to students of all ages! We kicked off our year with the "chocolate chip geological dig" in chapter 5 and my children were hooked. We're using The Ultimate Guide along with Trail Guide to World Geography and Geography Through Art for a very fun, complete geography program that appeals to my children from 1st through 5th grade. What I like most about this book is that the wealth of information and ideas in this book is useful for teaching up through the high school level which makes it very economical. There are also several pages of resources for use in history and science as well as geography. These include the timeline figures, "Who Am I" game cards, landform cards, weather report pages, and maps. Don't miss out on this valuable resource. No homeschool should be without it!
