I purchased these for both my children. Since we use these cards 3 to 4 times a week, I laminated the flash cards. We started working on the roots in January and they have memorized all 100 by mid March! We have used the cards as a game to see who knew more roots. Next I plan on having them learn the associated words. I have already found this useful in science and when reading. When the children come across an unknown word, we work on discovering the meaning through the root words. This has been great!

I think English from the Roots Up is a very easy and solid vocabulary program. It is definitely easy to use and I have been surprised at how fast my 9 year old has learned and how much she has retained by using this. It has increased her vocabulary in several areas including science. It is excellent for teaching the root words and at helping the student understand the definition of a word that is totally new to them. It can be used for almost any grade level which makes it a very reasonable investment. I do encourage the purchase of the flashcards as well. It is worth a little extra to have those.

When we finished English from the Roots Up, Volume 1, we had difficulty locating Volume 2. However, Rainbow Resource came to the rescue again! By spending less than 5 minutes per day, even my 7 year old son has learned all of the roots in Volume 1 and is well into Volume 2. The flash cards are a nice addition, and well worth the money. My three children enjoying going through the whole stack as quickly as they can! When learning can be fun and easy, why not? English from the Roots Up certainly makes the grade.
