I've found these CDs for Saxon Math to be an effective way to teach math to my 9 yo son and 10 yo daughter. My son is good in math but has a short attention span, so the short lessons are teaching him effectively. He is an auditory learner which makes this a good choice. I occasionally have to help him with the review parts of the problem set, but not with the lesson. The lessons are short but complete, and are taught in ways that my daughter can easily understand. Math is not her strong suit, but she frequently gets 100% of the practice and problem sets correct. Saxon math in CD form has done a great job of preparing my kids to ace the Iowa test.

We began using the DIVE cd's with Math 7/6. They have been a tremendous help. My son enjoys using the computer in his schooling and being able to stop and review what the lesson presented has been a big help to him. The cd teacher covers the material well and at a nice pace. I would recommend purchasing the DIVE cd's along with the text book for all Saxon Math products. I believe they are an invaluable tool.

We follow the suggestion of a particular curriculum guide which encourages the use of Saxon math at the pace of one year ahead of the Saxon Co. suggestions. By the time our children have reached the 65 level, they have all been ready for some independent learning with their math. The D.I.V.E. CD's have been a super tool to instill a sense of responsibility (not to mention a chance to be on the computer, even for a short time period!) in the 4th grade child. The lessons can be watched by the parent and child together, too, if desired. Our children have thrived in math with these CD's, and we love them!

When I heard these DIVE CDs were available, I couldn't wait to try them out on my 4th grader. I am especially grateful for tools like this for homeschooling as my health makes my days unpredictable. I can comfortably depend on DIVE when I am too sick to teach the lesson myself. The lessons are short, simply taught, and thorough. The instructor is likable and seems to like what he is doing, which makes the CD even better. My son is a social/visual learner, so while it works well for him, it is not something I would use exclusively everyday. In fact, I would not recommend these CDs for anyone to use as a sole means of math instruction. The only exception to this is for an older student who is able to work and be productive independently. Most kids using the lower levels of DIVE are just not there yet and may even take advantage of the fact that these CDs make it easy for parent teachers to disengage from teaching math altogether. The CD's content and presentation are top notch. They are spendy, but if you have chronic illness or any situation which makes your instruction inconsistent, than they are worth every penny. Your child never need miss a day of math again.

We have used Saxon with the Dive CD for the last 3 years, grades 5 to 7. This combination has changed math time completely, it is no longer a frustrating time for us. It is the best money I have spent for her math education. I will continue to purchase it through high school. Since Saxon lists the lesson number with each problem if she does not understand how to work the problem she can view that lesson on the Dive CD again. Dr. Shormann gives a few examples in each lesson and then he gives a few practice problems. The student pauses the CD and works the problem and then they watch Dr. Shormann work the problem to make sure they are working it correctly. His examples and practice problems are different from the ones given in the book.
