Not to leave out the eager younger children, this volume provides mini Five in a Row- style lessons for youngsters. This book; however, is divided into two parts, the first being similar to the other curriculum guides. Just as in the original series, each unit is built around a simple, classic children’s storybook. This book differs from the older volumes in that it is not structured around a week. The purpose is simply to provide an array of activities for each book that engage children and lay the foundation for further learning. Some of the activities are subject related, such as Bible, science, math, language arts, and art; others are various skills such as learning shapes, sequencing, colors or problem solving, and the rest are centered on specific topics, like relationships, contentment, birthdays or another book-related idea. The second part of this book focuses on arming parents with creative ideas to build learning readiness. This section is a treasure trove of activities that help develop reading readiness and motor skills or focus on the arts. Additional activities also capitalize on teachable moments that arise during bath time, in the kitchen, or during a trip to the store. 149 pgs. ~ Steph

I have to say we just love Five in a Row around here. We started doing it when my daughter had just turned four and it was a wonderful, relaxed, and cozy way to ease into home-learning. The books chosen are fantastic, we have been introduced to so many great titles and authors we would have missed otherwise. We did not always use the books as instructed (5 days a week), sometimes we just did a couple days or used it as a springboard for our own activities. Just recently, we started volume 2 after a year long break from FIAR and I am sorry we ever quit. FIAR is a great way to get your kids feet wet so to speak in a variety of topics and spark some new interests. My almost 6 and 3 year old both love hearing the stories and doing the activities. I often see them later on making up little stories and games of their own (playing on an imaginary high-wire after reading "Mirette on the High Wire" for example. Highly recommended!

I have used Five in a Row for six years now, and my little ones and I have enjoyed the time spent together. I feel like Jane Claire is a close and personal friend. Her way of writing and reasuring the homeschool teacher is a treasure which I hold dear to my heart. Five in a Row has truly been a blessing in our homeschool. Wonderful!

I have used Five in a Row for several years and love the warm fuzzy feeling we get from spending time together as a family using this curriculum. A lot of the books we found at the library so it made it more affordable for our family and we were able to use it for multiple kids at once. Love how the author has put it together, so simple yet so rich in knowledge without being intimidating.
