For either beginning or experienced artists, this book will help develop the ability to draw the human figure. After discussing the different materials available, it begins by encouraging students to begin with gesture drawings, or very quick studies of the human form in a variety of positions. This practical exercise is a great way to begin studying the human figure. After this section, students will learn how to really see their subject and how to get the proper proportions by guidelines and finding midpoints. Then they will begin drawing the basic form, learning about the basic construction of the body and how it moves. The subsequent chapters delve into the structure of the body (muscles and joints), details of the figure (torso, key shapes, legs, arms and hands), the head, and hands. Plenty of illustrations and sketches are shown to help you get started, and by following the guidelines and suggestions for plenty of practice, students’ abilities should be very noticeably improved. Please note that as this is a human figure drawing book, many of the sketches do portray nude figures. 122 pages. - Melissa
