Not one, but two chemistry courses are now available from Apologia. Serious stuff, this one is the equivalent of the first year of college chemistry. The course covers detailed descriptions of limiting-reagent stoichiometry, atomic and molecular orbitals, intermolecular forces, solutions, equilibria, acids and bases, redox reactions, nuclear chemistry, and organic chemistry. The first volume of the two-volume set includes the student text, on-your-own questions and solutions, lab exercises, and review questions and practice problems. Diagrams and illustrations are in black-and-white. The second volume is the solutions and tests manual, including answers to review questions, practice problems, tests and test solutions. Prerequisites for the course are one year of high school chemistry and Algebra 2. A serious science student can get a real leg up for college chemistry with this one!

We have been using Apologia science for 3 years now, and have been so pleased with it. Not only does it come from a creation standpoint, it is user friendly! My two older boys (ages 12 and 15) both love it! My oldest son, in 9th grade, took Chemistry this year. The book is written in such a way that it is easy for him to do by himself and the teacher's guide has a complete solution for every problem; including test problems. Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for this course; good understanding of algebra principles is necessary as there is a lot of math involved.
