This collection of books is an excellent introduction to the properties and uses of a variety of materials. Each of the books has 48-pages of large text in a simple, uncluttered layout. Additionally, the information in these guides is presented in small, manageable portions. This, along with the large, full-color illustrations and fun “fact boxes” makes the series attractive to kids, even those who are more reluctant readers. In addition to providing a horde of useful information about each substance, Material Matters helps students improve vocabulary through the use of word banks throughout the books and a detailed glossary at the back.
