10 Commandments of Parenting
Thou Shalt Build a Functional Family. This is the first (and shall we say, greatest?) commandment of these practical principles for biblical parenting. We’re all familiar with the concept of dysfunctional families. The actual meaning of the prefix “dys” implies danger. America’s dysfunctional families are dangerous to children, to husbands and wives, and to society. We’re familiar, too, with the idea that if you came from a dysfunctional family you will likely perpetuate the problem and create a dysfunctional family. However, the cycle can be stopped. Following these ten commandments (absolutes) positive fathers and mothers can overcome their background and pass strength and wholeness to their children based on solid biblical principles. Constructed by a pastor with years of counseling experience and years of effective parenting experience, these commandments, augmented by stories, anecdotes, and illustrations, provide the reader with a clear idea of both the goal and the path. Each chapter covers one commandment and concludes with a series of questions for parents. Commandment topics include love, modeling, teaching, spending time, disciplining, encouraging, providing stability and security, and having the “sex talk.” In other words as stated in the tenth commandment: Thou Shalt Not Be a Passive Parent. 214 pgs. pb ~ Janice
