Harry Winslow is twelve years old. He lives with his mother and sister in the English countryside a somewhat lonely life since his father was called to London to work with the wartime British Intelligence. The one bright spot in young Harry's life is the fact that his house is right next to Hampton Airfield which houses fighter planes and pilots who are constantly called into the thick of battle. A special relationship forms between Harry and the pilots of 14th Squadron, setting the stage for stories that emphasize good character traits: book 1 friendship, book 2 responsibility, book 3 wisdom, book 4 sacrifice, book 5 loyalty, and book 6 patience. Throughout these simple but engaging stories, readers will be introduced to the crazy life of a WWII fighter pilot from the camaraderie of a tightly-knit group, to the exhilaration of flight, to the desperation of combat. This is fantastic read-aloud material for youngsters with an interest in flying and WWII! Page counts range from 72 108, in pb. Zach
