History Speaks: Picture Books Plus Readerís Theater

All > History/Geography/Social Studies > U.S. HISTORY > Workbooks / Activities - Period-Focused >

Improve oral reading and learn history in these engaging, colorful readers. The front part of the book has a narrative story to read and learn (about 25 pages). Then there is a note from the author reflecting on the historical importance of the people and events in the story. Students are then encouraged to perform a scene from the story. There are directions of how to set this up, including checking your pronunciation of the words (using a glossary in the back), using your emotions, and keeping eye contact with your audience. The script itself is not too long, and has roles for 4-8 readers. A great way to blend history with the art of performance, bringing history alive for students. There are more resources to explore online in the back of the book. ~ Sara
