This series provides materials and projects to help children become familiar with maps and learn how to find items on a map or globe. Each book provides about a dozen reproducible worksheets, teacher resource pages, reproducible cards, and a double-sided, full-color poster for additional activities. In How to Use a Map, students identify directions, color different aspects of maps, identify map symbols, follow verbal directions to travel around a map, cut and paste, fill in blanks, and do more to reinforce map skills. The fold-out poster in this book depicts a colorful map of the world on one side and a colorful map of Fairy Tale Land on the other. In Landforms and Bodies of Water, the activity sheets provide landforms for students to color and simple exercises like cutting out pictures of mountains, islands, and valleys and pasting them onto a chart featuring the labels. Other activities include coloring various landforms certain colors, and drawing houses, boats, and animals on different landforms or bodies of water. It also includes more active activities to get students involved such as a beanbag toss and different games to play with the flashcards. The flashcards contain black and white pictures of landforms with the name of the landform on the bottom of the card. The flashcards included a picture of a mountain, valley, grassy plain, river, ocean, peninsula, volcano, lake, island, foothills, glacier, and pond. The colorful poster in this book has a landscape with all the different landforms and bodies of water pictured on one side, and the other side shows nine different landforms and bodies of water in framed boxes with their names printed across the bottom. In Continents and Oceans, students color animals that live in certain continents, label countries and oceans that touch continents, color countries, and identify continents and oceans in maps. Additional games (like a beanbag toss and flashcards) are also included. The poster in this book has a map of the world on one side with continents and oceans labeled and the same (but smaller) map on the other side with animals on the bottom to be matched up to the correct continents. These books are all geared towards the same grade level but focus on different aspects of geography and are great for teaching basic skills. A large globe and simple maps may be needed to complete some of the activities. There are about 18 perforated pgs in each book. pb ~ Rachel
