Donít Make Me Count to Three!

You probably gave a small smile at reading the title of this book, perhaps accompanied with a small twinge of guilt at having uttered those same words, or at least something equally ineffective, such as "You just wait till your daddy comes home!" or "You don't want me to have to come in there!" While it is easy to get upset and absentmindedly spout off phrases like these, they do not encourage a change of heart in children, and a crucial aspect of discipline is missed. The issue of discipline is a frequently discussed, often controversial topic for parentsparticularly Christian ones! This book guides mothers through the process of heart-oriented discipline, a method focusing on helping children change their hearts towards God instead of merely making their actions fit your will. Drawing on the wisdom of Ephesians 6:4, the author emphasizes instruction as well as discipline - that is, we are also called to instruct them in the ways of righteousness, which often gets left out of the disciplinary process. The book is written with a personal flair, and it is scripturally based, extremely enjoyable, and often humorous. The author does not pretend to be a perfect mother; she constantly reminds readers that she is teaching from God's word and not out of her own accomplishments. However, the book is very well written and full of practical, sensible advice for disciplining with a focus on your children's hearts. Although written directly to mothers, both moms and dads would benefit from the principles discussed in this book. 155 pgs, pb.

For the past several years, multitudes of moms have found wisdom packed into this practical book, and now the author has written a helpful 6-week study guide that really focuses on these nuggets of wisdom. Each week's study incorporates reading 2 chapters per week from the core book, a memory verse and diverse questions focused on your current parenting views, Scripture, fill in the blank exercises, and application questions. Space for discussion notes and prayer requests is included, although some parents may prefer to use a journal instead. Designed to be a study for a Mom's group Bible study, it also makes an excellent guide for individual study and personal growth as the questions and Scripture will guide moms into the practical application of Christ-centered parenting. Study based on the 1984 NIV Bible. 30 pgs, pb. ~ Melissa / Deanne
