I ordered this product hoping my six year old would be able to use it independently. However, I have found that he needs quite a bit of help from me which thus defeats its usefulness as independent work. However, my main concern with the program is the monsters which are in one part. They look and sound scary and some of the animations show one monster hurting another.

We have had this CD approximately two weeks. My Singapore Math Primary 1A student will be moving on to 1B the first of the year and needed some extra practice in number bonds and add/sub facts. He plays this every single day during computer time, and it has replaced all of his other computer games. He works independently (almost-5-year-old) and within the entire CD, delighting in his new multiplication and division discoveries. He has painlessly absorbed most of the math facts to 9 in the two weeks he has had it. Although he did try the monster game as well as the other arcade-style game he found them too tense since we do not play video games or such anxiety producing games at our house. However, there is plenty of other material to keep him quite busy. Without prompting he has simply not gone back to these two games. To sum up, this product has performed beyond my expectations already, is money well spent, and requires no intervention on my part beyond hollering out an occasional answer or expressing appreciation that 12 divided by 3 is indeed 4.

I have liked this program, though my oldest has needed much help using it. I agree on another point mentioned in another review, the monsters are pretty bad. I don't let my kids play that part. Other than that, I am willing to try the next CD. I have Windows NT and it works fine. It is easy to use.

We have been using this CD in our family for the past 5 years and LOVE IT!!! My children DO NOT need help but that is because I make sure they only play the games that have been covered in their workbooks & textbooks. Although, sometimes they have gone on to play a game without my notice and have been taught a concept from the CD before being introduced to it from their formal work. I can't say enough about this CD. I definitely like how it follows the Singapore methodology. And I love how my kids are having fun without realizing how much they are learning. We recently lost our CD and I've come back to order another one. We can not live without it!! Also, I don't know about the "scary monsters"???? My kids don't watch t.v. or have video games, but neither were they scared by anything on the cd. It seems pretty friendly to me. I have to wonder about the ages of the kids who were scared. I usually have my kinders-2nd graders use the cd which is ages 5-8. Again, this is a great resource with LOTS of games covering ALL the same sections in the text/workbook.

I would enthusiastically recommend this program to those whose children dislike repetition. The home instructor's guide contains a useful lesson plan and ideas for manipulatives and games, and lots of additional practice. The textbook and workbook are interesting, but plain enough that my daughter is able to stay focused on the math. The CD-ROM is pricey, but was a good investment for us as it covers 2 grade levels and we have several children using this curriculum. We've had good results with 2 daughters who have very different learning styles. It does tend to run about a grade level ahead in difficulty.
