Media Literacy: Thinking Critically about Adv
Teenagers are exposed to tons of advertising these days. Television, magazines, radio, and newspapers are filled with all sorts of messages targeting these young consumers. Although the underlying messages aren’t usually true, marketers create ads appealing to young adults and shaping their ideas in order to sell their products. This book encourages teens to think critically about ads to uncover the purpose of them as viewed by marketers. They will study advertisements for key features and analyze and evaluate different advertising ads and techniques and their effectiveness. The exercises strive to make teens informed consumers by uncovering the methods marketers use to reel them in, so they can recognize and avoid these ploys. 45 reproducible activities cover the history of advertising, consuming ads, advertising and females, advertising and males, television and radio, print and outdoor advertising, and advertising and the Internet. Learn as much about the advertising world as it does about you. ~ Steph
