Designed for children who are having difficulty mastering reading skills, these worksheets offer manageable practice with phonics and sight words. The worksheets are based around age-appropriate, high-interest topics. Varying in difficulty between books, the worksheets follow a similar format. The focus of the pages is on a passage (of various lengths depending upon the grade level of the book) which contains mainly two different types of sight words. (For example, one of the pages in the first book concentrates on those words ending in “et” and those with a “oo” in the middle. In the fourth book, these types are more exact and difficult, such as “ch sounds like k” or “soft g".) These sight words are contained in boxes on the page, with the focus letters left out so students can complete the words themselves and gain familiarity with them. The bulk of the page is filled with the passage, which contains these sight words. When the sight words are used, some of the letters have been replaced with blanks so students can fill them in. In the younger levels, children are able to see how many letters have been omitted, while in the two older levels there are just unbroken blanks. In both levels, students can easily refer to the boxes they have completed to find the words.
