I waited a couple months before submitting this review to be sure it would be most accurate It will help your child become familiar with the topics that are included on standardized tests Little to no teacher prep is required We found however that it did not in any way assist with a solid foundation in mastering math facts It assumes too much that your child is solid in this area It jumps from one topic to another and is definitely not traditional in its approach to teaching math It's very similar to what public schools are now attempting with math instruction If that's what you're after than this will work well for you We switched to a more traditional curriculim as this is what our child needed I will however continue to use math mammoth as a supplement It does aid in critical thinking and mental math in ways that other programs do not

Great Curriculum!
We used Abeka math for kindergarten and was not impressed at all, honestly even for me, the teacher it was boring. After much research, we went with Math Mammoth and have now been using it for six months and so glad! I love how it teaches the same concept in different ways (number lines, math problems, a few story problems) and moves relatively quickly, but not too fast, really at a nice, steady pace. The recommended games are fun and useful when you need something different. Manufacturer includes teachings on learning a clock and $ and even recommends using this if needing a break. Most of it is selfdirected by the child with directions needing read aloud by the educator. Will certainly be using this for grade 2 as well.

Just what we were lookibg for
My son turned 6 in Feb this year. He has always had a thing for numbers. I did countless reviews on every curriculum out there. I wasn't pleased. With that being said, I didn't but anything until math mammoth...I have been completely satisfied. For it to be the first curriculum we have used, I look forward to many years of using with my 2 up coming homeschooling kiddos. Everything is laid out. Simple instruction. Straight to the point. No extra fluff. Most importantly, my son loves it. That's what makes me happy??

Great program!
Last year my child had a hard time with math. The program was spiral (which I love) but it took to long to review previous concepts. With Math Mammoth, we get a lot of math problems to work on then come back to previous concepts much faster. So I guess you would say it is a shorter spiral. I found this is be a great mix between mastery and spiral learning.

Every child is different, but some of the concepts moved along to quickly and some dragged on a bit. Would have loved to have more review also. My son is an average student, and finished the first book in one month.

This has great reviews and we wanted to try it out. We started with Kindergarten Singapore last year, and had heard several recommendations for Saxon, so we switched to that for 1st grade level, but my daughter has not been enjoying it recently (she loves math). So we are going to give this a try!

Is the math mammoth light blue series the common core standards aligned version?
A shopper
on Feb 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, and the author goes through a thorough explanation of her opinion on Common Core (source: "Math Mammoth Common Core" page):
"My decision to align Math Mammoth Light Blue Series in 2011 to the CCS was based solely on these facts: 1) The standards themselves are reasonable. 2) At the time (2011), practically all the states had decided to adopt them.
Even now, after seeing all the turmoil over them, I still feel that Math Mammoth, being aligned, can help many homeschoolers (those who use charter schools, for example). And, the alignment has not made Math Mammoth materials any worse, so those who don't have to worry about the standards are not hurt by using MM."

Yes it is. I've been using the program for years now in California. I homeschool through a charter and have a credentialed teacher who collects all the info for the state. It is her favorite math program and she wishes our county would adopt it.
According to the FAQ on the Math Mammoth website
Is Math Mammoth aligned with any state standards?
Grades 17 meet and exceed the Common Core Standards.
(I can attest that it covers core standards in an understandable common sense way and goes beyond to give a wonderful foundation for student learners. I've even learned a thing of two by teaching it!)

Vote for the best answer above! Is the math mammoth light blue series the common core standards aligned version?A shopper on Feb 2, 2017BEST ANSWER: Yes, and the author goes through a thorough explanation of her opinion on Common Core (source: "Math Mammoth Common Core" page):
"My decision to align Math Mammoth Light Blue Series in 2011 to the CCS was based solely on these facts: 1) The standards themselves are reasonable. 2) At the time (2011), practically all the states had decided to adopt them.
Even now, after seeing all the turmoil over them, I still feel that Math Mammoth, being aligned, can help many homeschoolers (those who use charter schools, for example). And, the alignment has not made Math Mammoth materials any worse, so those who don't have to worry about the standards are not hurt by using MM." Reply

I've even learned a thing of two by teaching it!) Reply
