Description

A great story about Big Red, an Irish setter show dog that was crippled from a bear fight, and how he eventually extends his legacy with a litter of five beautiful puppies. All the pups showed great potential, except for one smaller, mischievous runt named Mike. Ross and Danny were the hired trainers for these hunting show dogs. Their employer Mr. Haggin, however, had a nephew who had recently discovered the power, agility, and strength of the English setter. Mr. Haggin's nephew, John Price, tries to convince others that the Irish setters are “no good and useless," and that Mr. Haggin should rid of the Irish setters and upgrade to English setters.

Ross and Danny, the father and son duo, are not convinced. They still believe Irish setters are the superior hunting dogs. After competing and quarreling over the dogs, Ross and Danny set out to raise a litter of their own Irish setters. Mike, the troubled pup, manages to find his way to Danny, who then trains and hunts him into an excellent, better behaved hunting dog. Will Danny be able to use Mike to prove his point to Mr. Haggin and get his job and the rest of the pups back? 182 pgs, pb.

Note: I noticed the book made at least one reference to the technical term of a female breed dog. A word that when taken out of context is a curse word.
